Cricket Fiji has taken another important step in strengthening its coaching pathway after Development Manager Joeli Mateyawa Seuvou and Development Officer Vulisere Waqavakatoga successfully completed the 2026 ICC East Asia Pacific Level 1 Coach Tutor Course in Brisbane, Australia earlier this month.
The three-day course focused on preparing participants to become ICC recognised Tutors who can help develop and train more coaches within their countries.
Following the successful completion of the programme, both Joeli and Vulisere are now recognised as ICC Tutors.
Joeli said the course provided valuable knowledge that can be directly applied to cricket development in Fiji.
โThe course gave us a better understanding of how to develop coaches and, more importantly, how to teach and support coaches effectively. We now have the opportunity to bring this knowledge back and help strengthen the coaching system in Fiji,โ Joeli said.
The ICC Training and Education programme was established to provide structured learning pathways for coaches, umpires, scorers and pitch curators around the world. A key focus is helping Associate Members build their own trained and accredited workforce.
As ICC Tutors, Joeli and Vulisere will now play an important role in supporting Cricket Fiji to develop more quality coaches and deliver ICC recognised coaching programmes locally.
Cricket Fiji CEO Anushil Kumar thanked ICC East Asia Pacific for the opportunity and said staff development remains a key priority.
โWe thank ICC East Asia Pacific for this valuable opportunity for Joeli and Vulisere. We will continue to focus on the professional development of our staff in every area possible. Investing in our people is important because a stronger workforce will ultimately help us deliver better programmes and create more opportunities for the growth of cricket in Fiji,โ Kumar said.
The next step will be for Cricket Fiji and its newly recognised Tutors to work with ICC East Asia Pacific on a country plan and identify the next steps for coach education and development in Fiji.
The appointment of two ICC Tutors provides Cricket Fiji with additional capacity to build a stronger, more sustainable coaching system from the grassroots level upwards.
