Preparing Athletes to Perform Under Pressure
As Team Fiji prepares for one of the most exciting stretches in our sporting history, FASANOC is making sure our athletes are ready in every way, including mentally.
We recently hosted a Performance Psychology Workshop in Suva, bringing together athletes and coaches from 10 sports -Badminton, Boxing, Athletics, Para-athletics, Archery, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Tennis, Hockey and Triathlon.
The workshop was led by Brisbane-based performance psychologist Krishneel Maharaj, a proud Fijian who represented Fiji in athletics & football and now works with elite athletes across Australia and internationally. Krishneel holds a Master's degree in Sports Coaching and an IOC Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sport.
The message was powerful: at international level, it's often not physical ability that separates athletes. It's what happens in the mind when the pressure is on.
"When attention shifts or athletes don't respond effectively to their emotions, even highly skilled athletes can stop executing the simple actions they normally perform well." β Krishneel Maharaj
With the Commonwealth Games & Youth Olympic Games (2026), Pacific Games (2027) and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games on the horizon, we are committed to preparing Team Fiji across ALL dimensions of performance.
Thank you, Krishneel, for your incredible support. We are proud to have you in Team Fiji's corner! ππ
