RSYC Junior Sailing Program - The Suva Scallywags ⚓️ Building confident young sailors at RSYC through fun, safe learning on Suva’s waters. Safety is important.

The RSYC offers a fleet of Optimists and Lasers for the enjoyment of young children to learn to sail. Children from the age of 8 are usually capable of learning to sail in the Optimist class and older teenagers (14-18 yrs) and young adults can learn to sail a Laser or in a Sunburst. Students are assessed on swimming 50m unaided in open waters.

What a fantastic way to bring another memorable sailing year to a close—with our end-of-year race and prizegiving!

A huge vinaka vakalevu to the New Zealand High Commission and Royal Akarana Yacht Club for their tremendous support and mentoring of our coaches throughout the year. Your guidance has helped our young sailors learn, race, grow in confidence, and enjoy every moment on the water.

This year was filled with wonderful highlights, including a trip to Auckland in January for coaching and mentoring, support for our young and emerging Optimist coaches, and guided on-the-water sessions for our Optimist sailors.

We were also delighted to welcome back the Royal Akarana coaches to RSYC again this year to continue mentoring our sailors and coaching our coaches. This year, we were also partnered with Savusavu Junior Sailing and spent a week in the North , which was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. A heartfelt thank you to the Savusavu sailing community for their warm hospitality.

Another special highlight was competing in—and hosting—the Nationals in Suva this year. It was a proud moment for our club and a fantastic celebration of sailing.

Thank you to our coaches, parent volunteers, RSYC Commodore, committee, manager and boat drivers for your support in junior sailing.

And, of course, a heartfelt thank you to our master and commander, Marigold Moody, for steering us all through another big year. We know how much time you invest in the program and we appreciate you.

A big vinaka vakalevu to Goodman Fielder for generously sponsoring the sausages and ice cream for the day—the perfect way to finish a fantastic year of sailing.

Lastly to all our sailors, congratulations on everything you have achieved. Your enthusiasm, determination, and love of sailing make us incredibly proud. Here’s to another year of learning, growing, friendship, and shining on the water!💙🌊🩵

Representing the club where her sailing career began. RSYC.
We are claiming this champ and her win. Thank you Sophia Morgan for showing us how it’s done and always taking the time to mentor our young sailors off and on the water. We look forward to seeing you represent Fiji next year at SPG.

Sophia Morgan Wins ILCA Nationals!

What a performance from RAYC Sailing Academy coach Sophia Morgan, who has taken out the Fiji ILCA Nationals, winning all nine races!

Congratulations, Sophia, what an incredible result!

Nationals prep mode: ON 🇫🇯

Today’s job number – getting the sails race-ready, with numbers going on.

There’s a lot that happens before the boats even hit the water. Rigging, checking, measuring, sticking, fixing .
