RSYC Junior Sailing Program - The Suva Scallywags ⚓️ Building confident young sailors at RSYC through fun, safe learning on Suva’s waters. Safety is important.

The RSYC offers a fleet of Optimists and Lasers for the enjoyment of young children to learn to sail. Children from the age of 8 are usually capable of learning to sail in the Optimist class and older teenagers (14-18 yrs) and young adults can learn to sail a Laser or in a Sunburst. Students are assessed on swimming 50m unaided in open waters.

To sail is to learn that preparation matters as much as performance.

🪢 It may seem simple, but a good knot can make all the difference.
From safety at sea to everyday challenges, it’s a skill for life.

One rope, countless possibilities.

When a maritime warning keeps everyone off the water, there’s only one thing left to do — find out who will be crowned Knot Champion! Plenty of fun, friendly competition, and new skills for our young sailors.

Sailing is one of those sports where what happens behind the scenes is just as important as what happens on the water.

For many small sailing clubs, like ours in the islands, that work is carried out by volunteers. Most often, it is parents who step forward to fill the gaps.

They help with administration, logistics, fundraising, boat maintenance, race management, coaching support and the hundreds of small tasks that keep a club running. They arrive early and give their time so that young sailors can get out on the water.

These photos celebrate some of those parents who joined us on our Adventure Sail. They are part of the team behind the team, helping to build not only stronger sailors but stronger sailing communities.

A special mention to Marigold Moody, the driving force behind the revival of junior sailing at RSYC. Through her determination, countless volunteer hours and ability to rally parents and sailors alike, she has helped create opportunities for a new generation of young sailors to get out on the water.

The success of our sport depends on people willing to lend a hand, share their skills and invest in the next generation.

It takes a village to raise a sailor. ❤️⛵️

Tiny boats. Big ocean.

⛵️Sandbank ~ RSYC

Adventure sail days are all about discovery.
Because sailors don't grow by staying in the familiar. They grow by exploring, adapting and learning from the ocean around them.☀️🐠
