🏊‍♂️ GRAND PRIX TWO SHORT COURSE MAKES A SPLASH ACROSS FIJI! 🇫🇯💙5th September 2026

What a fantastic continuation of the Fiji Aquatics Grand Prix Series, with 200 swimmers competing simultaneously across Fiji’s Eastern and Western Divisions!

🌧️ Eastern Division – 90 swimmers
Despite the cold and rainy conditions in Suva, our swimmers arrived ready to race and delivered an exciting day of competition.

☀️ Western Division – 110 swimmers
The West enjoyed its usual beautiful, hot weather, creating the perfect atmosphere for a great day of racing!

Our swimmers ranged from 8 to 27 years old, and it was especially wonderful to see some of our former senior swimmers returning to the pool. Their participation reminds us that swimming truly is a sport for all ages. Their continued commitment to training and competition is greatly appreciated and admired.

We were also delighted to welcome three swimmers from Tonga Swimming Club–Malolo. Vinaka for joining us and adding to the wonderful spirit of the competition!

Across both venues, swimmers competed with determination, encouraged one another and challenged themselves to achieve new personal bests. The energy, sportsmanship and team spirit displayed throughout the day demonstrated the continued strength and growth of our aquatic community.

A heartfelt vinaka vakalevu to all our coaches, technical officials, volunteers, parents, families and supporters. Your commitment made it possible to successfully stage two competitions at the same time, providing more swimmers with the opportunity to race.

👏 Congratulations to every swimmer who stepped onto the blocks and gave their best. Whether you achieved a personal best, returned to competition or raced for the first time, you helped make Grand Prix Two Short Course a memorable event!

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the pool for the next exciting round of racing at the Grand Prix 3 Series.

Our final Safeguarding Champion for this month's Safe Sport campaign is Jane Wong-Niubalavu, Trainings, Programmes & Games Manager at the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), and the organisation's first Safeguarding Officer.

A dedicated Team Up Safeguarding Champion, Jane completed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Safeguarding Officer in Sport Certificate in 2025 and continues to advocate for safe, inclusive and supportive sporting environments for children and young people.

Jane's passion for safeguarding reflects a simple but powerful belief: every child should be able to participate in sport feeling safe, valued, included and free to thrive.

Team Up is the Australian Government's sport for development program in the Pacific.

🏊‍♀️ SC GP 1 – A Great Day for Swimming in Fiji! 🏊‍♂️

What a fantastic day of racing, with our clubs coming together to host GP1 Short Course Events in both Nadi and Suva!

🌊 Nadi Baracuda Swim Club proudly hosts SC GP 1 in Nadi, welcoming swimmers and clubs from across the West. Great White Sharks, Mako and Seals are all in attendance, with over 100 swimmers taking part in an exciting day of short-course racing.

🌊 In Suva, The three Swim Clubs Dolphin’s , Tritons and Orca cohosted SC GP1 and welcomes the Suva-based swimming community, with approximately 83 swimmers also taking to the pool.

It has been a great day for our swimming community, and it is fantastic to see our clubs stepping up to host these events and create more opportunities for swimmers to compete.

A huge thank you to the clubs hosting GP1 , officials, coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters who make these events possible.

Approximately 183 swimmers competing across Nadi and Suva — a wonderful day for swimming! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️🇫🇯

🏊‍♀️ Our Final Race at Nationals 2026 💚🤍

The curtain came down on this year's National Championships in Sheffield with Talei taking to the blocks for the 50m Backstroke Final.

After qualifying 9th from the heats, Talei returned to the pool determined to make every stroke count. She produced a fantastic swim, setting a new personal best and moving up the rankings to finish an outstanding 7th in England. 👏

What makes this result even more special is the journey behind it. Over the last two seasons, Talei has shown incredible commitment to her training, embracing every challenge along the way. Her improvement has been remarkable, and that steep performance curve has led her all the way to a National Final.

To step up under the pressure of a national championship, deliver a PB, and improve your placing is a brilliant achievement and the perfect way to round off your season.

Congratulations, Talei! This is so well deserved, and everyone at WDSC is incredibly proud of everything you've achieved. Enjoy the moment—you've earned it! 💚🤍💚🤍
