For the first time, it started to feel like this might actually work.

During the winter of 2024–2025, things started to feel different.

More people were finding us, and different experiences were selling much more steadily than before.

Our snowmobile safaris were running with our own snowmobiles, families were joining our winter experiences, and guests were also staying at Arctic Nature Glamping.

Some days were very long, often 12 to 15 hours. If we were not with guests, there was still marketing, sales, administration, preparing experiences, taking care of the horses and everything else that comes with running the business.

We were not there yet, but for the first time, it felt like we might be getting close. I remember thinking that if we could grow a little more the following winter, maybe all this work would finally start to make sense.

That winter gave us a lot of hope

The previous spring, 2024, we had bought our first own snowmobile for guests.

For us, that was the decision to seriously expand into snowmobile safaris.

When the next winter season began, we had two snowmobiles for our guests. One of them was an old work snowmobile that had already seen quite a lot of life.

In our way of thinking, a premium experience is built on very different things than simply having the newest or most expensive equipment.

We want our guests to feel that they are genuinely being taken care of. There is time to notice what is around you, to ask questions, to hear the stories behind the places we travel through and to share the experience with the people you came with. With a small group, we can pay attention to the people with us and let the moments feel personal.

That old snowmobile was still good to drive, and it was lovely to see that our guests seemed to value the same things we did. At the end of the tours, we saw genuinely happy faces. The age of the snowmobile did not seem to matter to them. What mattered was the meaningful experience they had just shared and the feeling of being out there in Arctic nature, something they would remember long after returning home.

Good equipment still helps us create an even better experience. Early that winter, we made a quick decision to invest in one completely new snowmobile and replace the old one with a newer used snowmobile. That gave us a great set of three snowmobiles for guests, the same setup we will continue with this coming winter.

We are not here just to provide snowmobiles.
We are here to create experiences. ❤️

On our snowmobile safaris, only three guest snowmobiles follow us into the wilderness.

This changes the whole experience.

With only a few people, we have time to notice how everyone is doing, answer questions and share more about the nature and local life around us.

We can take the conditions and the people with us into account. We explore the surroundings, and you get to experience what real wilderness feels like.

Jarno believed in the next step before I was ready to believe in it myself.

In spring 2024, we came across a good used snowmobile that could become our first own snowmobile for guests.

Until then, we had arranged our private snowmobile safaris with snowmobiles rented from a local partner.

Buying our own one meant making a real decision to expand into snowmobile safaris and investing again in something we still did not know would work.

After all the difficult years, I was not sure I had enough faith in the future to take another risk.

Jarno believed in the future more than I did at that moment.

Of course, we made the decision together. But without his confidence, I am not sure I would have been ready to make another investment.

One used snowmobile might sound like a very small step. For us at that point, it did not feel small at all. Buying it meant committing to snowmobile safaris and accepting that, if we were serious about this direction, more investments would have to follow.

So we bought the snowmobile.

Looking back, it was the investment that truly changed things for us.

Guests did not come for only one thing anymore.

By this time, we had different winter experiences, and guests started booking more than one of our experiences. Our glamping guests also joined our activities.

The experiences could be very different. A family, a couple or a group of friends did not necessarily want to do the same things. But I started to notice how often they were looking for something very similar.

They wanted personal experiences, valued small groups and time to enjoy the surroundings, while also learning about the nature and everyday life here. They were looking for a feeling of closeness to Arctic nature and something meaningful to share together.

The activity itself could be different. What they hoped to feel was often quite similar.

I still notice the same thing today. Once guests find us, many of them want to experience more than one thing with us. 🤍

I did not know it at the time, but our first private snowmobile safaris were the beginning of a new direction for Vilu.

We did not have our own guest snowmobiles then. We rented the snowmobiles from a local partner and simply arranged the experience for guests who wanted it.

At that point, I was not thinking that snowmobiling would become such an important part of Vilu. It was simply one more experience we were able to arrange.

Looking back, those first safaris were already showing us where we were heading.

Later, when we came across a good used snowmobile, we made the decision to seriously expand into snowmobile safaris.

Back then, I had no idea where those first safaris would eventually take us ❤️

The journey to meet Santa begins quietly.

An elf welcomes your family at the edge of the forest and leads you along the snowy path. Step by step, the outside world begins to feel a little further away.

And somewhere ahead, Santa is waiting. ✨

This experience is private for your family. There are no other families waiting for their turn and no need to hurry through the moment.

Before your visit, we ask a little about your children, such as their names, interests and things that matter to them. This helps Santa make the meeting feel personal from the beginning.

You meet Santa outdoors in the Arctic forest, surrounded by soft lights and winter stillness. Some children start talking immediately. Others need a little time first. Both are perfectly fine.

Santa speaks English fluently, but of course, it is not his own language. Santa and the elves have their own ancient and magical Christmas language, so he does not speak every language in the world. If your child does not speak English, that is absolutely fine. Parents are welcome to translate the conversation into their own language, and children can still enjoy and connect with the moment with Santa regardless of the language they speak. The conversation is allowed to unfold naturally, in the children's own way.

This coming winter, some of Santa’s elves who speak a little of some common European languages may also be able to help during some visits, if their busy Christmas duties allow. ✨

A small gift for each child is included, but the most important part is not something you can take home in your hands. It is the memory of an enchanting moment shared together as a family with Santa.

A family once asked us if we could arrange a private meeting with Santa.

There was no private Santa experience available for independent travellers here in Hetta, so we started planning one for them.

That first booking never actually happened. But their question had already made us realise that there was a need for this kind of experience, and we had an amazing opportunity to make it happen.

Jarno has a natural way of stepping into the role of Santa. He is warm, empathetic and wonderfully present with people. He has a calm, gentle voice, speaks fluent English and knows how to make the moment feel personal, calm and genuine.

So we decided to add a private meeting with Santa to our experiences. Later that same winter, in 2023, we welcomed our first families to meet Santa✨

Autumn gives the Northern Lights a completely different setting from winter.

Before the lakes freeze, the auroras can reflect on still water. On a calm night, you may see the colours moving across the sky and mirrored on the lake below.

The nights are also usually much milder than in midwinter. It is easier to stay outside longer, watch the sky and enjoy the moment without extreme cold becoming the main part of the experience.

Before the first snow arrives, the landscape is naturally darker. There is no white snow reflecting light, which can make faint Northern Lights easier to notice.

Aurora activity also tends to be slightly higher in autumn than in midwinter.

Reflections, milder nights, deep darkness and an active sky. Autumn has its own kind of Northern Lights magic 🌌

Most people imagine the Northern Lights above a snowy winter landscape.

The nights become dark enough to see them long before winter arrives.

We usually see the first Northern Lights again at the end of August here in Enontekiö.

That is more than a month before the first snow arrives, and almost two months before snow usually stays on the ground.

The landscape looks completely different from midwinter, and that makes the Northern Lights experience different too.

Honestly, I think the Northern Lights are better in autumn.
