Coaching Achievements
• World Chess Federation (FIDE) Qualified Coach (National Instructor) 2016 - one of only six FIDE qualified coaches in Finland and the only native English speaker.
• Manager of Finland Youth Team at the European Youth Chess Championships in Batumi, Georgia (2014), Prague, Czech Republic (2016) and the Nordic Girls' Championships in Stockholm, Sweden
(2017).
• Member of the Board of Finnish Premier League Champion club Tammer-shakki. Manager/coach of women's and girl's team and also jointly responsible for junior activities at the club.
• Coached and organised Lentävänniemi School's chess team which won the Tampere School's Team Championships in 2015.
• Coached former two-times Finnish U18 champion Touko Setälä.
• Currently coaches Sini Jokinen who has won the Finnish Youth Girls' title three times (U8 2014 , U10 2016 and U12 2017) and the Finnish Schools' Girls' title three times (U8 2014 and U10 2015 and 2016). Sini has also represented the Finnish Youth team in 6 international matches, played in two European Youth Championships (2014 and 2016) and the Nordic Girls' Championships (2017).
• Chess teacher and camp supervisor at the first International Chess Camp to be held in Tampere, Finland from 31.7-04.8.2017. Coached the English language group which included national youth champions and medalists.
• Thetford Youth and Community Chess Club (UK) coach before coming to Finland in 2004. First started coaching juniors in 1996. Main Playing Achievements
• Norfolk County, U.K. under 18 Champion (1986).
• Board one player for Reading University, U.K. (1991-1993).
• Winner of the A Section in the Seregno, Italy, Chess Championships in 1996.
• Joint first in premier section of Norfolk Open Chess Championships, U.K. (2004).
• Gold Medal in Työväenurheiluliitto Mestaruus (Working man’s Sports Association Championships), Pori, Finland (2008).
• Nokia Chess Champion, 2010.
• First, Tampere Chess Club (TaSK) Club Championships, 2013.
• Bronze medalist (2014 and 2015) in the Teachers' and Coaches category of the Finnish Schools' Chess Championships.
• Internationally rated player (expert level), peak rating 2089 and rated over 2000 from 2007-2015.
• First category player in Finland from 2006.
