Just as teams arrived on Friday for the X-Marathon race in Australia last weekend, Adventure Ju**ie faced a immediate closure of most of their course for Saturday due to 'Total Fire Ban'. A Race Director's nightmare.

Somehow they reorganised the course so teams paddled on Saturday and restarted at midnight on a re-jigged course for Sunday and saved the event.

(Quite why there why there was such a major fire risk on Saturday and not on Sunday isn't clear ... )

The race decided the new Adventure Racing World Series - Oceania champions, a title taken by Kiwi team Forever Forests Racing.

Race registration and briefing is complete at X-Marathon, and it was a case of 'adapt and survive' as the race was hit by a Total Fire Ban.

This was announced by the local authorities as teams arrived at the race venue at Killcare and the ban closes down all events in the National Parks used for the race course on Saturday!

Adventure Ju**ie has been working hard, and in a very short time span, to reorganise the race.

Teams will complete two paddle stages on Saturday, then will have to wait until midnight to restart the race, so it will be in two parts.

After they restart with a night rogaine stage it will be on a shortened route to allow teams to finish before the course closure at 12.30pm.

Teams appreciated the effort the organisers have gone to in order to keep the event alive in a situation where most would have cancelled.

Adventure racing is good at adapting, and for this year's X-Marathon, that's what they have had to do!

Hot on the heels of the European Champs comes the Oceania Championship hosted by Adventure Ju**ie at the X-Marathon Adventure Race.

The race will be based on the New South Wales central coast and Race Director Maria Plyashechko said: "We've designed the 2026 courses to showcase the Central Coast at its best — challenging, beautiful, and full of variety. Every part of the race tests teamwork, navigation, and endurance while rewarding you with some of the most spectacular scenery in NSW."

That's it! The European Championship at the is over, and what an incredible event it was!

The race wrapped up at the with an emotional prize giving and a well earned standing ovation for Lars and Maria.

As teams travel home they will carry memories to last a lifetime and keep a place in their hearts for Denmark.

The top two teams are now on the final stage of the Montane Adventure Race, the 2026 ARWS European Championship.

Estonian ACE Adventure / La Sportiva have a strong lead going into the final ride as they close in on the finish line at Kobæk Strand Hotel & Konference. Masanga Racing Aaros left the final TA about 25 minutes behind.
