You can spend 7 days with us, living the full winter ranch life, riding through snowy forests, staying at our Finnish farmhouse and slowing down far away from the crowds.

Let’s be honest.

You probably didn’t follow us because of the humans.

You followed us because of THEM.

So here they finally are, the horses behind Ranch Kuulas.

They all have completely different personalities, strengths, opinions and favourite jobs. Some are brave, some sensitive, some incredibly calm, some a little too clever for their own good.

And most of them are Finnhorses, Finland’s only native horse breed.

They are not just part of our business. They are the reason this place exists in the first place.

We know many of you have already been secretly choosing favourites from our videos…

So now we want to know:

Because Christmas in Finland was never just about a red suit, presents and a perfectly staged photo.

Long before Christmas became commercial, there was another kind of Christmas here.

Slower.

Quieter.

A little rough around the edges.

The Christmas tree came from the forest.

Food was prepared over several days.

The sauna was heated.

The animals were cared for.

Candles were lit.

And people gathered around the same table with nowhere else they needed to be.

That is the Christmas we want to bring back.

This December, only 10 guests will stay with us in our 110-year-old farmhouse in Finnish Lapland for three nights of an old-fashioned Finnish Christmas.

Finnhorses.
Traditional Christmas food.
A tree brought home from the forest with a horse.
Christmas sauna.
Ice swimming.
Candlelight.
Snow.
And a Christmas Day with almost nothing on the schedule.

Not Christmas performed for tourists.

Christmas you actually get to live.

We never wanted Ranch Kuulas to feel like a place that was built for tourists.

We wanted it to feel like a place you discover.

Like you opened a book, stepped through the first page and suddenly found yourself somewhere between an old Finnish farmhouse, a horse story and a slightly strange Lapland fairytale.

And the funny thing is: most of the details here were never planned just because they “look nice”.

They came from somewhere.

An old photograph.
A family story.
A horse that changed everything.
A piece of Finnish history.
Something rescued, rebuilt or carried here from another chapter of our lives.

Even many of our horses have stories that could probably fill a book of their own.

So when you visit us, ask questions.

Ask about the house.
Ask about the horses.
Ask about the objects on the walls.
Ask why something is where it is.

Because there is usually a story behind it.

And once you arrive, you become one small part of that story too.

Finland has only one native horse breed.

The Finnhorse.

And on September 6, we celebrate it.

But for me, Finnhorse Day is not only about looking back at everything this breed has done for Finland.

It is about asking what comes next.

For generations, the Finnhorse had an important job in Finnish society.

It worked in our forests and fields, transported people, served during wartime and became deeply connected to Finnish life, work and identity.

Today, its role is changing again.

And I believe tourism could become one of the forces helping give this breed a new future.

What if international visitors came to Finland not only dreaming about reindeer, huskies and Northern Lights…

…but also dreaming about meeting a Finnhorse?

What if “Finnhorse” became a name people recognised around the world?

What if experiencing this breed became part of experiencing Finland itself?

That is the future I want to help build.

Not by turning the Finnhorse into just another tourist attraction.

But by sharing its story, culture, character and living heritage with people who might otherwise never know it existed.

This is only the beginning.

What if following one little ranch in Lapland meant following the future of an entire horse breed?

The Finnhorse is endangered.

And while we can’t save a breed alone, we can do our small part.

At Ranch Kuulas, tourism gives our Finnhorses a job, and that income allows us to invest back into the breed, including breeding the next generation.

Almost every year, 1–3 Finnhorse foals are born here.

And if everything goes as planned, next summer there will be TWO new tiny Finnhorses joining our herd.

You’ll get to follow the whole journey here.

From waiting for the foals to arrive…
to their first wobbly steps,
their first summer in the herd,
growing up in Lapland,
and eventually, years from now, becoming part of the next generation of working Finnhorses.
