We’ve been using Flex Hoof Boots for several years now…from 2018 I think.
We originally needed protection for our barefoot horses’ hooves, especially during the summer when we started offering trail rides. Our routes include gravel roads and rocky paths, so it’s essential that the boots also protect the sole.
When we first got to try Flex Hoof Boots, we fell in love with how easy they are to use and how naturally our horses move in them. Thanks to their flexibility, they seem very comfortable for the horses. The fastening system is also the best we’ve tested.
The boots stay securely on even at faster gaits, as long as they are the right size for the horse. Another great feature is that they can still be fitted even when the hooves are a bit overgrown and close to the next trim—small variations in hoof size don’t prevent their use.
So far, we’ve mainly used the boots during snow-free seasons. However, as icy conditions have become more common here in Lapland, there’s now a growing need for studded winter boots that can provide grip on slippery surfaces.
This past winter, we got to test boots with slightly longer studs, providing better grip when there’s a thin layer of snow on top of ice.
After several years of experience, we can warmly recommend Flex Hoof Boots.
