❄️ The third competition day brought fast sprint racing to Paljakka, with temperatures close to –20°C creating tough conditions and making the overall standings even closer – especially in the elite classes. In the men’s elite category, Jonatan Ståhl (SWE) skied a strong race, winning the 4.28 km sprint in 12:36. Tuomas Outinen (KS) was only five seconds behind, and Andrei Lamov (SWE), already a winner earlier in the week, finished third (+8 s), again showing that he is one of the most reliable athletes in all formats. Overall leader Niklas Ekström (MS Parma) placed sixth today (+25 s); even without a podium place, his points from the first two races keep him in the fight for the week’s title, and earlier days’ top performer Aapo Viippola (MS Parma) did not start today.
In the women’s elite class, Magdalena Olsson (SWE) took the sprint win with a clean and fast race in 12:53. Amanda Yli-Futka (MS Parma) continued her strong week by finishing second (+26 s), staying well placed in the overall standings. Behind them, Ella Turesson (SWE) in third and Linda Lindkvist (SWE) in fourth kept the Swedish–Finnish battle tight and made this one of the closest elite competitions of the week.
The junior categories saw similar changes. In H20, the sprint win went to Niklas Hirvilahti (VeVe) in 12:26, with Eero Sorsa (SoJy) and Joona Hirvilahti (VeVe) close behind. Joona, with two earlier victories, still has the best total points, but Niklas’ win keeps the internal team battle open. In D20, the fastest time came from Sanni Hoskari (RasKe), who handled the short and technical course in 15:17. Maja Lundholm (SWE), unbeaten until today, finished six seconds behind, but her strong results from the first two days still keep her in the lead for the week.
In H17, Kasper Ekonoja (PelPo) produced another strong run, winning in 11:24 and continuing a consistent week. Joakim Savinainen (RasKu) and Veeti Viippola (OuTa) stayed solid in second and third, so the overall junior standings remain close. In the D17 class, Anett Liisa Parts (EST) kept her perfect record with another victory in 13:47, followed by Eevi Inkeri Kaartinen (KeKaRa) and Reeta Räsänen (Pohjant). Parts’ series of wins puts her clearly ahead in the points race, but the fight for the remaining podium places is still tight.
