No, Oulu is not in Lapland. It sits about 170 km south of the Arctic Circle and that surprises almost every guest who books with us.
Here is the short version.
Oulu is the fifth-largest city in Finland, on the coast of the Bay of Bothnia. In winter the sea freezes, and the ice starts 15 minutes from the city centre. That is where we take people out on the frozen sea for ice fishing, snowshoeing, a tent sauna, and aurora nights around the campfire.
The Northern Lights are visible here on clear, dark nights. Just an open horizon with nothing in the way.
And if Lapland is on your list too: the train to Rovaniemi takes about 2.5 hours, and the night train from Helsinki stops in Oulu on its way north. You don't have to choose.
Guided departures run every week from late December to the end of March, from single travellers to groups. Link in bio.
