Late race report from Virginia IHRA race.

Qualifications were though. Only one day for qualifications and two rounds scheduled for it. 17 bikes competing and originally it was going to be just an 8 field for the eliminations but that got changed to 16 just before the first round.

The first round went pretty well for us, 1.12s 60' and 4.36s to 1/8 mile with early shut-off. (It's 1/8 mile race). We did just minor adjustments for the second round which was scheduled to start at 6 pm. But due to multiple track clean ups it was around 9pm before we were running. Tune-up was a little bit too much for cooled down track and the bike drifted towards wall due to slight wheelspin. So no improvement. Fortunately others didn't improve too much either so we ended to 4th position after the second round. Not bad!

On the first elimination round we faced the legend Bob Malloy. The race wasn't pretty. We lost the traction right after starting line, the engine over revved and dropped both cylinders. But luckily it recovered and since Bob had problems too Mike was able to take the win. On the second round we had Rebel Glover against us. For our surprise the tire blew up again after a half second. This time our luck was over and Rebel took a win. After the run we found an issue in the air system that had affected to clutch control and probably was behind the first round problems too. Downsides of working with hastily collected pit setup...

Despite the slightly disappointing end the race was very positive experience overall. We proved that we can be competitive on the American continent too. And the event itself was great too. Plenty of teams, everything was well organized and we really felt welcomed. Looking forward to the next races!

The IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series is at Virginia Motorsports Park for round 2 of the series. Dinwiddie, VA.

This season will be slightly different for us. As you may have noticed from some previous updates the Nitro V60 bike has been shipped to the USA now. The plan is that Michael Balch will race at least few IHRA races on it. Let's see what happens after that.

The first race is starting tomorrow here at the Virginia Motorsports Park. The team arrived to the track on Tuesday evening and the plan was do some test runs on Wednesday. Since the trailer, tools an everything else here were just collected together it took some time to set things up and get the bike ready for testing. In the end we managed to do a couple of runs during the day.

Mike did great job piloting the bike and seems that he got familiar with it pretty well. As downside we had a normal share of small issues with the bike. Launches off the line were a bit lazier than they should and on the second run one of the spark plugs spat out the porcelain! Luckily Mike didn't got hurt by it.

On Thursday we checked the bike a bit more carefully due to the spark plug incident and fixed a couple of issues. Now everything is ready for the qualifications. Interesting to see how we can match the though competition.

Hannes the winterstorm visited us at Reckless HQ on Saturday night and blew off the wall on metal workshop.
Now it's back where it belongs and almost managed to put it fully back up while daylight 🤘😎

Next some snow plowing around machinery... 🤣
