Run Your Way to a Better Life: The Benefits of Running for Your Body and Mind 🏃♂️🧠
📖I read "When Breath Becomes Air" by Paul Kalanithi one year ago. It tells the story of a doctor who discovered he had cancer in the middle of his life. He describes how well he knew the disease as it was how he made a living. He shows us the journey of a kid who belonged to an immigrant family, striving his best to have a better social status. He sacrificed a lot to become a doctor in America. As you can tell, he would eventually die after fighting this incurable disease. I remember crying while listening to the audiobook while working my part-time job. At the same time, I also understand the book title. He told us that nothing else mattered anymore on his last day in bed. The only thing that existed was his love for those he cared for and the fight to take one more breath in this life.
If you have ever been serious about running, you'll know that when you lose focus on breathing, your heart rate increases, and you'll tire very quickly 🥵. Running taught me to focus on that moment, to feel my body, and to listen to my thoughts. At first, when you try, there will be signs of sore legs and being out of breath. But humans are well-known for their adaptability, which is why we are a dominant species on earth. You'll quickly adapt. Your breath will eventually become normal, and there will be fewer signs of pain in your body. Once you feel the positive effects of running on your body and health, you may be like me and ask yourself why you didn't start sooner.
I hope you'll have the most fulfilling day of your life today 😊. Be able to run & focus on your breath, to know what your body is telling you. Because many people, like Paul, wish on their deathbed to have one more breath to observe the beautiful world around them and to be able to breathe next to the people they love.
"Begin your running journey now, today is the perfect day to take that first step."
