Confucius Institute at TVTI and Luban Workshop Launch “Chinese + Industrial Control” Training Program
On August 3, the Confucius Institute at TVTI and the Luban Workshop officially launched the “Chinese + Industrial Control” Training Program, marking another important step in integrating Chinese language education with technical and vocational skills training in Ethiopia.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Haftom, Vice President of the Ethiopian Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute (TVTI); Mr. Pan Liang, Director of the Confucius Institute at TVTI; Mr. Wang Yuxia, General Manager of Roen Manufacturing One Member PLC; Mr. Seifu, Program Coordinator of the training program; Ms. Wang Rui, the Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute at TVTI; and other members of the teaching team.
In his opening remarks, Director Pan Liang introduced the objectives of the program, emphasizing that it is designed to integrate industrial control (PLC) technology with occupational Chinese language instruction. Guided by the needs of industry, the program aims to cultivate local professionals with both technical expertise and Chinese communication skills, while strengthening school-enterprise cooperation and supporting the sustainable development of Chinese-funded enterprises in Ethiopia.
Vice President Haftom congratulated the organizers on the successful launch of the program. He noted that the initiative reflects the close integration of vocational education and industry, and encouraged participants to make full use of the training opportunity to improve their technical competencies and Chinese language proficiency, preparing themselves for future careers in the manufacturing sector.
Representing the industry partner, Mr. Wang Yuxia expressed Roen Manufacturing One Member PLC’s strong support for the program. He said the company looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with the Confucius Institute at TVTI, the Luban Workshop and TVTI to cultivate more highly skilled local professionals capable of meeting the demands of modern manufacturing.
Mr. Seifu then introduced the training curriculum. The one-month program adopts the EPIP (Engineering–Practice–Innovation–Project) teaching model, integrating 36 hours of industrial control (PLC) training with 12 hours of occupational Chinese language instruction. Participants were recruited from the local community, and outstanding trainees will have the opportunity to join Roen Manufacturing One Member PLC upon successful completion of the program.
The launch of the program represents another successful practice of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” initiative. By combining language education with vocational training and industry needs, the program contributes to local talent development, industry-education integration, and the continued growth of China–Ethiopia cooperation in technical and vocational education.
