Instead of a presentation, I gave them three words: reflect, inspect, project.
Most people jump straight to the third one.
They want the plan, the pricing change, the new hire, the announcement.
But you can't plan your way out of something you haven't actually looked at yet.
Reflect first.
Where do things actually stand right now, not where you assumed they'd be by now.
Then inspect.
Get to the ground level yourself. Walk the floor, read the real numbers, talk to the person doing the work instead of the person managing them.
Only then, project. Build the plan, and put an actual date on it.
I've watched plenty of good leaders skip the first two steps because they're in a hurry.
It never actually saves time.
