Today was a good day to practice my Jedi mind tricks.. I am stronger than the wind... all day 70 kms with almost relentless head wind. I was warned that the direction to Lyon is a head wind. Combined with seeing wind turbines pointing in the same direction as I was heading... I made it just short of Valence after a brief stop at decathlon for a long sleeve top. I need warmer clothes as I head north. I decided instead of Lyon I will head to Grenoble area and by pass Lyon adding 2 or 3 days to my journey... but although the head wind was not cool I still saw some cool scenery. Only under 1000 kms to calais more or less

So last night I decided to go have a beer at the campsite.. bad Idea.. I was hanging at the bar talking to the bar man all night which lead me to be in the perfect position to meet people coming to the bar of which I told them what I was doing, which then lead to drinks being bought for me.... all this cycling has lowered my alcohol tolerance. When I left I decided to walk around the campsite in the dark not realising how big it was and that I didn't look at my site number. I got disorientated and found myself drinking wine with some German families that were still up late... so cycling today with a hang over in the heat wasn't fun.. 61 kms. I passed through the wine village côtes du Rhone and crossed the Rhone about 4 times. Around 55 km I thought next campsite I see I'm staying... I'm a Leo and saw Lion camping so took that as a sign... I think I may change my direction and straight line France. I do like France and French people. The route I wanted through Switzerland and so on included 10.000 meters of climbing over 1.400 kms so that would mean I would be a alot slower costing me more days than I want... making routes now to decide...

Trying to be minimalist and carrying only what I need I realised I need a seat, so I tried out a new idea. Also incase I see a hitchhiker.. Thought it might cause to much drag so I left it behind. Me and my mate passed through Sommieres with Roman and medieval constructions.. pretty cool from the 1600's. We got to Nimes and chilled in a cool park having alfresco supermarket lunch( I'm buying lunch and dinner for 5 euros a day.. bloody awesome. Although today I treated my self to a boil in the bag uncle Ben's rice and mushroom) didn't stay long in Nimes. I decided it was too busy and didn't want to do a hostal again. Me and my bike friend.. (inbetweeners reference) split in Nimes so I carried on to Remoulins and my navigation app took me to the remains of the first suspension bridge built. Found a campsite with a price of 7 euros 66 cents for bikers and tent.. going to do 2 nights here after 7 days biking. I bagged a cool 70 kms or so today. Total for 7 days so far 530 kms.. Tomorrow rest day and sights seeing.. half way to switzerland.

Snapped quite a few pictures today.. headed to Narbonne to see the sights. Big Cathedral built in 1272... hard to comprehend something so detailed built that long ago.. had a massive Organ and a cool painting of what looks like an angel with a sword of fire killing everyone... scary stuff to keep you believing Then my first crėpe with sugar and coffee... After that was an awesome 86 kms of pretty much flat passing through vineyards and nice villages and the town of Bezziers. Rhys Williams now I know what you mean River Orb.. I saw the locks. I thought you meant rolling in massive inflatable balls... but that's zorbing. Saw a bridge of water for boats.. another Cathedral.. picked loads of blackberries ... got told off for trying to cross a one of the locks with a bike.. so we had to back track a little.. but worth it because we found a good few KMS of wicked singletrack... then beach and beer!!!!

Yesterday's heat got to me!!! Today I didn't leave until 2 o clock.. I was laying around in the shade.. but I decided to ride as the coast was flat. 56 kms. The app komoot did well to find me nice cycling tracks. I didn't switch it on until I reached a dead end.... the sea.. my bike doesn't float so good... I found fish restaurants on the estuary that looked like something from Thailand or China. I didn't stop to eat. I choose the local supermarket couscous tabbouleh for 1 euro and added grated carrot for 80 cents.. kept me going... cheapest lunch yet...
Then it was a great ride to finalise with canal path that seemed to go on forever but got me close to Narbonne. Tomorrow I hope to get close to Montpellier, but that is 100 km away. Made a new friend this evening heading the same direction. Tomorrow I'm not riding solo.. nice for a change because talking to yourself can also cause arguments😂

Not as much happened today.. picked up alot of road Kms. Tried to go my own way ignoring the reccomended route and started on a cool Roman road descent only to find myself losing time trying to find a crossing at the river. Lesson learnt but I still got 75 kms in the bag.
I came across some cool constructions around a little river that seemed to be of special remembrance. Looked like a star wars set. Here is just one photo of the many constructions. Not wanting to be too negative about food but I saw for the first a real chicken farm that I'm sure supplies supermarkets and restaurants.. made me think twice about how much chicken I eat... was not nice..
Now I'm camping amongst cork trees ready to cross the border to France. I didn't go the way I wanted as the local bike shop said don't do it as the roads are dangerous with cars and the the route to the lake is a bit too much. So I didn't find the lake I wanted... glad I stopped by the shop to get some oil on my chain... only then to ride a sandy track which I now have oil and sand on my chain😂😂😂...

After my first ever hostals experience cocollona (which maybe the best) I took an easy 80 kms for my first day from Girona😂. I looped around some of the towns as I headed to Olot a village toward the bulk of the Pyrennes. It started on a nice river side route and then picked up an old train track. At the top was an old volcano which you can see the crater but it is with trees now so photo didn't do it any good. I didn't take photos of Olot, just one or two (bad joke). The village has used the volcanic rocks for construction in the old days and in some places the floor is full of the rock. The constructions of building reminds me of France and what you normally find in the hills along side rivers... great flowing rivers and lots nature around.. lots of local cyclists and quite a few cycling tourers like myself, loaded with there equipment. The bike did well today. I was wondering if a full suspension MTB would be too much as most tourers use lighter rigid bikes.
At the top you can see the mountain ridges that I will cross tomorrow towards Montpellier and I have spotted a lake I want to find. I pasted a couple of monasteries and head on for a bit longer to find a campsite... due to not finding a good place to camp alfresco... to top it off it seems frogs live in the shower drains.. and seemed to be enjoying it..🐸

I have found my first happy place. Girona is a different contrast after my brief 2 hours spent in Barcelona. I have been in Barcelona a few times and enjoy visiting the sights to see. Walking around the walls of Girona has some tranquilo relaxing feel about it... there is not a lot of people or traffic for such a big place. It seems a slower pace. The medieval structures don't seem so Gothic like Barcelona which makes a more pleasant feel..(although I am a fan of Gothika). I'm sure back in the days there was some tyranny and dark stuff but now the bells ring and views are great combined with parks trees and walled old gardens. In the distance are the mountains/hills of which I am yet to attack. Apparently on is an old Volcano. Maybe tomorrow or maybe one more day of Girona before its time to hunt down camp spots and supply stops.

Ibiza to the UK. .. shortest route 1300-1400 kms... may just make it a round 2000 ... up over the pyrennes... first time bike packing... be back in Ibiza next year!!!
