Despite the heat we had a great session at walking football today.
If you're over 50 and are looking to play football, come down to the Sports Centre in Moraira on a Thursday 10.30am -12.00pm and give it a go

Last week John Redmond played his 1st game of walking football at the tender age of 93...and he thoroughly enjoyed himself.🙂👏
It just goes to show that you are never to old to get your boots back on.!
So if you're 50+ plus and you thought your football days were over, come on down and have a look and get involved.⚽️
We play at the Poliesportiu Les Sorts on the centre of Moraira every Thursday 10.30am -12.00pm

Our Walking Football Tournament was a friendly competition that took place on October 11 2023. The tournament featured four teams: Widnes, Southend, Moraira VAR, and Moraira Rifraff. The teams played each other in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final. The winners of the tournament were Moraira VAR, who defeated Moraira Rifraff in a very close match that ended 2-2 and was decided on penalties. The tournament was a great success, as everyone enjoyed the day, it was competitive but played in good spirit, helped by good refereeing. The weather was warm and sunny, and the players drank plenty of water to stay hydrated. The standard of play was high, and some very good goals were scored by all the teams. After the tournament, all the players celebrated with beers and burgers at the Premium Bar, our local bar that sponsored the event. The Tournament was a fun and memorable experience for all involved.
We hope to run the tournament again in 2024.

Today was the last Thursday morning session before we break for the summer, and it was a solid turnout and despite the heat we had a really good competitive session, with some really good play and some quality goals being scored by Dickie and Rich both definitely had their shooting boots on this morning.⚽️
Thank you to everyone who has turned up and played/supported us through the 1st half of the year and as always a massive THANK YOU to Ken for refereeing each week as we couldn't play without his help.
We hope everone enjoys the summer break and we look forward to welcoming you all back at the start of September ( date to be confirmed at a later date)

A well attended session this morning with 18 players forming 3 , 6 a side teams.
As well as enjoying playing it's as important to warm up for the games and even though we are playing in the warmth, muscles and joints need to stretched and supple to enjoy the games. That's why we always do 10-15 mins of exercises before we play.
After we then had a very good competitive session injury free ! and enjoyed a well earned drink at the Premium Bar afterwards.

After the last couple of days of much needed rain, we thought we might have to cancel today's session.
Luckily the footballing gods were on our side, as the pitch had dried out and it was an uninterrupted sunny session.
We had a good turn out for a 6-a- side game with revolving subs in what turned out to be a good competitive match with the Greens sneaking the game 7-6.
There were two "Golden goal" moments, one right at the start from Rash who bent a right foot curler into the top corner past Alan and the other right at the end to win the game, from Gazzer with a sublime turn and swivel shot leaving Ian with no chance .
After the game we had a strong turn out at the Premium Bar to analyse the game in better detail than Gary Neville and Jamie Garragher. !!

A great morning's walking football just finished before the rain came !
The comedy moment of the day was watching Gerry try to put his green bib on which stopped the game for 5 mins !
The golden goal came from Chris " "goal hanger" Cooper , who walked with the ball from the halfway line to score a goal, now that's one for the scrapbook !
It was a good competitive session and at the end the Greens ran out 5-2 winners .

The Thursday morning sessions continue to get good attendence, as we were able to field 3 teams again this week. Great team selection from Dickie as the teams were evenly split meaning every game was very close with just the odd goal winning or drawing the games, the highlight being a sensational goal from Philip Butterworth who blasted a near post goal past a bemused Dave McKee 🙂
We welcomed 2 new players to the group this morning John & Martin who really enjoyed watching and playing again.
Walking football is a great way to keep fit, at MWF we welcome all players both men and women aged 50+ who want to rekindle or stat their playing careers or are just looking for something different to keep fit.

A great session this morning where we were able to field 3 teams and we couldn't miss the opportunity to have a photo of so many of the original members of MWF from 2015 playing in the same session, it was like a trip down memory lane !!
It was also good to have new members like Helen & Dan playing as we need old and new members to keep the club going and growing.

A great session yesterday , we had an excellent turn out of 21 players , so we had 3 teams of 7 playing 6-a-side with a rolling sub, which everyone was happy about given the heat..😎
The games were all very competitive and close and played in great spirit with lots of good banter.
If you haven't given walking football a go because you haven't played for 20 years or since school , or waiting to try it for the 1st time , come down the sports centre in Moraira which is right in the centre of town and come and have a go. It's a great way to stay or get back into fitness.
We play every Thursday 10.30am-12.00pm and then we go for a coffee or a beer afterwards in the Premium Bar..

Another good 7 a-side session this morning and it's beginning to get warm 🙂. It was nice to see Ken back from his holidays so we now have a proper ref again!
It was also good to have Ian back from his winter in Italy and we welcomed a new recruit to the group in Frank who hasn't played football since school and is keen to get fit again..
The sessions were very close but the Greens game our 5-3 winners this week.
Roll on next week..⚽️
