Sadly hearing a lot of these stories lately, this is why it’s so vital to have an understanding of the winds/tides/ocean before you venture out 🙏🏻

Our inshore lifeboat rescued two people on inflatable paddle boards who had drifted a mile off shore from Widewater lagoon in the off shore wind on Saturday morning.

They couldn’t paddle back and after more than an hour they were cold and tired. The crew located them into the lifeboat and deflated their paddle boards.

They were taken into the beach where the Shoreham coastguard team met them with blankets to warm them up and checked them over.

Lifeboat helm Dom Huxley said: “The pair were in difficulty as they were a long way off and no one else was around. They weren’t wearing life jackets or buoyancy aids and there was an off shore wind blowing.

“Luckily they had a mobile phone so they could call the coastguard for help.”
