🦀 ARROW CRAB

With its incredibly long legs and triangular body, the Arrow Crab looks more like a spider than a crab.

These fascinating creatures are often found hiding in cracks, caves and rocky reefs around Gran Canaria. They help keep the reef clean by feeding on small invertebrates and organic debris.

🔹 Scientific name: Stenorhynchus lanceolatus
🔹 Habitat: Reefs, caves and rocky seabeds
🔹 Diet: Small invertebrates and scavenged food
🔹 Leg span: Up to 15 cm
🔹 Fun Fact: Despite their delicate appearance, Arrow Crabs are surprisingly agile hunters.

🦑 CUTTLEFISH – THE MASTER OF CAMOUFLAGE

This incredible cuttlefish was photographed on the sandy seabed of Gran Canaria. Thanks to specialised skin cells called chromatophores, cuttlefish can change their colour, pattern and even texture within seconds.

They use this ability to hide from predators, communicate with other cuttlefish and surprise their prey.

🔹 Habitat: Sandy bottoms, reefs and seagrass beds
🔹 Diet: Small fish, crabs and shrimp
🔹 Size: Up to 45 cm
🔹 Fun Fact: Cuttlefish are among the most intelligent invertebrates in the ocean.

🐡 CANARIAN PUFFERFISH

One of the small treasures hiding in the waters of Gran Canaria!

The Canarian Pufferfish (Canthigaster capistrata) is commonly found in shallow coastal areas around the island. Although small in size, it has an impressive defense mechanism: when threatened, it can inflate its body to make itself appear larger and more difficult for predators to swallow.

🔹 Size: Up to 20 cm
🔹 Diet: Small invertebrates, algae, and crustaceans
🔹 Habitat: Rocky reefs and coastal areas around Gran Canaria
🔹 Fun Fact: Unlike many other pufferfish species, it is not considered dangerous to divers.
