Why should you NOT swap the halves of a splitboard when ascending on hard snow?

When touring on hard-packed or icy snow, the ski that tends to lose traction first is the one on the downhill (valley) side. This is due to body geometry and how weight and pressure points are distributed during movement.
To mitigate this, an effective technique is to avoid swapping the splitboard halves in ascent mode. This way, the straight effective edge — which provides greater surface contact and more uniform pressure — remains on the downhill side. In contrast, the curved edge tends to pivot more easily on hard snow, offering less stability.
This setup significantly improves grip and traction, providing a much more solid and stable platform for progression, especially when performing kick turns on steep or exposed terrain.

Optimized Ascent Design:

A key advantage of our splitboards is that, in touring mode, the separated halves maintain an aesthetic similar to traditional skis. We have designed the edges with wider angles and less aggressive profiles to prevent wear and tear. When climbing without swapping the halves, it is common for the pieces to clip each other; by eliminating sharp 90^\circ angles, we reduce the risk of one half damaging the other in the event of an accidental collision.

Last weekend we celebrated the 12th Mendifest, one of the most attended editions so far, despite the uncertain weather.

Great splitboard routes, better snow than expected and, above all, an amazing vibe both on and off the mountain.

We're having a record-breaking winter of snowfall in the Pyrenees, but on the other hand, there have been few sunny days to enjoy it. But at the slightest ray of sunshine, we're there to enjoy our mountains and some great Pyrenean powder.

Going up into the mountains is always a privilege. Not just on days with powder, good snow, great lines, etc., because not every day offers good conditions for slide. Marble snow, sticky snow, high avalanche risk, etc., are also companions on many of our days. But on those days, we should also feel fortunate to be up there and enjoy what the mountain offers.

Yesterday, November 9th, we officially kicked off the season. There was a lot of uncertainty about how things would turn out, so it was a matter of monitoring the precipitation radar minute by minute and seeing that one of the areas that benefited the most was the Aran Valley. A couple of calls to confirm, and the die was cast.

The decision wasn't just based on the amount of rainfall, but also on the terrain. Pastureland (Baqueira, as the name suggests), a grassy base not without some loose rocks and stones that required extra caution. Having visited the area in the summer and having photos of the terrain, along with Google Earth, also helped us understand where we should be stepping.
Then, once we were there, we saw that the wind had shifted to the northwest and that the eastern slopes had benefited the most... So off we went, with all the caution in the world, and voila... It went better than expected!
We're thrilled with this start to the season!
