ILKLEY CC MOJACAR HOLIDAY JANUARY 2026 DAY 1 BLOG

After an early start from a very cold Leeds/Bradford 14 of the Ilkley CC headed to the sunnier climate of Almeria, Specifically Mojacar courtesy of Mojacar Cycling Holidays. https://mojacarcyclingholidays.co.uk/
Being the first Ilkley trip for a number of years, this planned holiday was well advertised and opened up to all with the promise we would be looked after regardless of what group we ride with at home. Once we landed at Alicante airport we were met by the MCH representative and we were comfortably transferred to the hotel at the coastal resort.

Alizon and Tony made there own way and met the group at the 4 star Marina Playa.

Andy and some of his team were there to meet us and we checked in to our rooms which were big enough to house 4 people in each room!
Then it was time to sort out our bikes in the garage downstairs. All the rental bikes had our names on and the MCH guys helped with bike fit and pedals and saddles etc which all went well.
Once complete we were offered a shakedown ride to check everything was working properly.
Fully kitted up we met outside and it was here that it was discovered that certain members of the group had ‘pilfered’ some of the MCH kit!🥷🥷
The perpetrator was identified as Terry “tea leaf” Parker but all was ok as we learned that we were to be given it at the briefing anyway!

Off we set in the nice weather along the paseo towards Carboneras. The group travelled at there own pace with no pressure to compete. A hugh chapeau to Sally who despite deciding to head back early, miraculously turned up again not giving up and determined to continue!

We headed to Sopalmo and after riding in the cycle lane Dave got the first puncture of the trip!

Andy fixed it for him before they met us coming back down and we headed back to the hotel for a shower before Andy held his pre holiday briefing and handed the gifts out that some had already got!

Dinner and wine was had before bed after a long day and thoughts are given to tomorrow’s route after today’s bonus 25km ride.
