My biggest ever carp off of the surface 👀……. And at just over 31lbs I’m sure many of you reading this will have had a lot bigger, however for someone like me who does next to zero surface fishing I was absolutely buzzing when this Norton Disney - Embryo Angling chunky mirror popped up! I also think that in the modern world of carp fishing the obsession with catching “big” carp is making people lose sight of what angling is about, for me I absolutely love catching carp of any size no matter where from and it wouldn’t have been that many years ago that a carp of this size would of made the first few pages in the weekly mags!
However I know one thing, I won’t be missing another summer without having a floater set up in the van!

For me fishing is all about having the best time possible, catching carp no matter how big or small, and during a recent trip up to I was extremely fortunate to share a peg with for a few hours surface fishing. Now for me Carl is fishing royalty, someone who I’ve watched for years and look up to, in fairness I get abit star struck every time I see him 🤦‍♂️ his enthusiasm and passion for fishing is honestly off the scale and to spend some time fishing together was just immense……we had a good laugh as you will have seen in the video and not long after we landed this brace of carp I went on to catch my biggest ever surface caught carp 😂! And with that being said I think I’m gonna get myself a dedicated floater set up to leave in the van!

Despite the persistent ☀️ and hot weather it’s been a mental period of angling, following on from my trip on manor I stayed up as I was attending the Willow Foundation charity event on St John’s, slotting inbetween all the other guys I actually ended up fishing in the channel area of the lake in a swim I had never fished before believe it or not 😉……with minimal water and not many options I kept things very simple and baited an area very short (6 wraps) with just corn, tigers and broken manilla and used exactly the same rigs and hookbaits as I did on manor over the top, the reason for this approach was that I was trying my very best to avoid the catfish!!!! It clearly worked as both nights between 11pm and 1am I had a mad flurry of action with this long ol biggun being the pick of the bunch! When you’re on a roll you just gotta keep rolling I suppose.

Want to hit the same spot each time without Re-wrapping?

Previously I showed you exactly how I cast ensuring that I am as accurate as possibly can be, but getting back out to the same spot with the rods time and time again without the need of having to wrap up every time is another matter, I personally like to use pole elastic on the line to achieve this and here’s a short video of exactly how I do that! A time saving hack that will mean your rods are in the water for longer 💪🏼

As double takes go, the one on Manor the other week will certainly take some beating with this 36lber being the first of the 2 bites that I received during my “quick” session! The rods had only been out for around an hour when I started to receive the odd liner on both rods, now fishing with braid your indication is increased massively and these liners where going on for almost half an hour before I eventually received the first take, but it got me thinking was it this fish and the big fully feeding together for that entire period? Or was there multiple fish on the spot and I just got extremely lucky with the 2 that picked my bait up? I always ask the same questions in my head over and over and I suppose I will never know the answer, but it does just go to show that you never know what that next bite could be!

Did I tell you I caught the Patch fully from the Wharf? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🏗️……..well if you missed it here’s the other side 😉 a truly mind blowing carp with more than a few stories to tell I’m sure! When I joined last year I said to everyone it would be my absolute dream to catch one of the big fullys from the lake, and after seeing it for the first time cruising around during our filming trip in May it made me more determined than ever! These old carp aren’t around forever and whilst arriving late and not getting the rods out untill the early hours isn’t something I would usually do, in this instance I definitely WOULDNT have caught this carp without putting that extra effort in!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏗️ Wharfs Patch Fully!!

A carp that I so dearly wanted in the album and a capture just 5 days on from the big fully from Manor, I’m still finding it hard to believe that it’s actually happened but at 7am on Tuesday morning I slipped the net under one of the Wharfs most wanted, the Patch fully at a healthy 38lbs!!! I arrived at the lake very late on the Monday and didn’t actually get the rods out untill the early hours of Tuesday morning, but due to the very well lit nature of the the urban venue it meant I could go to bed knowing that the rods where out spot on! First came a 30lb common which was soon followed by this relic of a carp, when it hit the surface I was a right ol mess 😂 but thankfully she didn’t really do to much and I soon scooped her up in the waiting net! this was on one of the main carp I joined the Wharf for and having already caught Ebz it’s just the big fully to go to complete the “big 3”…..that being said tho the lake is full of incredible carp so I’m hoping the big fully eludes me so I can carry on fishing the concrete jungle!

Before I share the picture of the patch fully from the Wharf that I had on Tuesday, I thought it was only right to post the other side of the big fully from Linears Manor farm at 46lb 8oz that I caught on Thursday 🤯…….

Apparently it was all down to the moon 🌙 🌝😂

🇬🇧 The big fully at 46lb 8oz 🤯 and a dream well and truly achieved, I’m still struggling to comprehend the events of Thursday morning on Manor after receiving the double take of a lifetime.
Now before I go any further the back story to how I caught this fish really does just go to prove that you have to take up any small offer that you may get as you literally do never know what could happen next 🤦‍♂️, an early morning move into my mate peg for a social soon saw me fishing 2 rods way out to the right in an area that we both never expected this fish to come from, now I fully (see what I did there 😉) understand that carp swim all around the lake but based on previous captures we spent most of the morning talking about this carp and that how it’s probably sat down the other end on its own…….but how wrong was we! The left hander went first and with a big mirror soon in the net, but before we could even start to deal with that fish the other rod was away! All the way in it felt big and when it hit the surface about 20 yards I honestly fell to pieces and in a blink of an eye jumped in with the rod and proceeded to scoop up this insane carp, now every carp I catch gives me a buzz but seeing this in the net the emotions of realising I finally had the “ONE” I so dearly wanted overcome me. I said when I had that fully from the Wharf that I wouldn’t be beating that capture anytime soon…….but I think this one just about tops it!
