When your mid “vlog” update laying in bed after you believe bite time is over and you get a screamer 😂 I don’t think I will ever not feel a huge rush of adrenaline when that alarm goes…..although I should of put the crocs in normal mode rather than sports mode as I lost time trying to get them on 😂
I have recently added a bite cam to the Vlogging armoury courtesy of the guys from so getting lucky with a bite whilst filming will be a thing of the past!

Monster grass carp 🤯 and certainly the biggest one I have ever landed! Grassy’s always seem to divide opinion amongst us anglers but I have to admit that I do rather enjoy catching them, not only for the fight but also just to admire the sheer proportions of them. This one here I estimated to be well into the upper 60 bracket if not a touch bigger! I never actually weighed it because we didn’t have a sling long enough to safely contain this monster inside of but as you can see from the picture it’s a huge grassy! What was also mad is that during my trip I landed 3 of these all of which were caught in a half hour window on 3 consecutive evenings just before the intended species moved in 💪🏼

🇭🇷 Zajarki giant 🇭🇷

The second biggest carp I have ever caught 🤯 weighing 72lb 1oz, a proper Croatian bad boy and the fruits of a very hard and long night’s work on the final night of the trip for me! On previous trips I have mixed boilies with particle to bulk the mix out and whilst I’ve always caught very well I’ve never experienced an average carp size like I did on this trip where I fed just boilies. On the last night alone I went through 20kg of 18mmers and landed 20 carp between 35lbs and 72lbs with 14 of these over the 40lbs mark, I still have flashbacks now from when I heard the leader knot hit the tip eye and I flicked the head torch on and saw this absolute monster laying on its side ready to be netted 🤯 a memory I will certainly not be forgetting in a long time.

As darkness fell on my final night at Zajarki I felt more prepared and ready than I had done on any previous trip I’d had to the lake, with multiple rigs tied all with hook baits on, a bucket full of 18mms in the spod station and 2 fully charged head torches I was ready, after catching a 50 just before dark which was soon followed by a trio of 40s I suffered a hook pull from a decent common at the net, I didn’t see exactly how big but this mirror just a few Ozs shy of 60lbs was for sure smaller 😢 however with the incredible stock of carp the lake holds I knew that if I kept feeding with the boilies and fishing and baiting the way I was I knew deep down that it was going to happen! I’m still in shock now at just how well the final night went and I don’t think that for the rest of my angling life I will ever experience action like it again from such an insane stamp of carp!

Lake Zajarki 🇭🇷 madness once again, this years trip was a little different for me, although we had the lake for a week I only chose to fish the first few nights and not fish during the heat of the day and spend some time with , coming out late in the draw I chose a peg that was conveniently located very close to the clubhouse and vending machines 😂 but one that is renowned for doing the bigguns and a swim that is closer range fishing to a lot of the others! I opted to fish at 27 wraps which was just short of some underwater snags and bait solely with 18mm boilies and fish big hookbaits over the top with the intention of getting fewer bites but with a bigger average, and it certainly worked…..it took a few nights to get the spot “proper” going, but on the final night I experienced action on Zajarki like I have never had before, with this 50lber being the first bite of the evening, but little did I know what was to follow……..

My biggest ever carp off of the surface 👀……. And at just over 31lbs I’m sure many of you reading this will have had a lot bigger, however for someone like me who does next to zero surface fishing I was absolutely buzzing when this Norton Disney - Embryo Angling chunky mirror popped up! I also think that in the modern world of carp fishing the obsession with catching “big” carp is making people lose sight of what angling is about, for me I absolutely love catching carp of any size no matter where from and it wouldn’t have been that many years ago that a carp of this size would of made the first few pages in the weekly mags!
However I know one thing, I won’t be missing another summer without having a floater set up in the van!

For me fishing is all about having the best time possible, catching carp no matter how big or small, and during a recent trip up to I was extremely fortunate to share a peg with for a few hours surface fishing. Now for me Carl is fishing royalty, someone who I’ve watched for years and look up to, in fairness I get abit star struck every time I see him 🤦‍♂️ his enthusiasm and passion for fishing is honestly off the scale and to spend some time fishing together was just immense……we had a good laugh as you will have seen in the video and not long after we landed this brace of carp I went on to catch my biggest ever surface caught carp 😂! And with that being said I think I’m gonna get myself a dedicated floater set up to leave in the van!

Despite the persistent ☀️ and hot weather it’s been a mental period of angling, following on from my trip on manor I stayed up as I was attending the Willow Foundation charity event on St John’s, slotting inbetween all the other guys I actually ended up fishing in the channel area of the lake in a swim I had never fished before believe it or not 😉……with minimal water and not many options I kept things very simple and baited an area very short (6 wraps) with just corn, tigers and broken manilla and used exactly the same rigs and hookbaits as I did on manor over the top, the reason for this approach was that I was trying my very best to avoid the catfish!!!! It clearly worked as both nights between 11pm and 1am I had a mad flurry of action with this long ol biggun being the pick of the bunch! When you’re on a roll you just gotta keep rolling I suppose.

Want to hit the same spot each time without Re-wrapping?

Previously I showed you exactly how I cast ensuring that I am as accurate as possibly can be, but getting back out to the same spot with the rods time and time again without the need of having to wrap up every time is another matter, I personally like to use pole elastic on the line to achieve this and here’s a short video of exactly how I do that! A time saving hack that will mean your rods are in the water for longer 💪🏼

As double takes go, the one on Manor the other week will certainly take some beating with this 36lber being the first of the 2 bites that I received during my “quick” session! The rods had only been out for around an hour when I started to receive the odd liner on both rods, now fishing with braid your indication is increased massively and these liners where going on for almost half an hour before I eventually received the first take, but it got me thinking was it this fish and the big fully feeding together for that entire period? Or was there multiple fish on the spot and I just got extremely lucky with the 2 that picked my bait up? I always ask the same questions in my head over and over and I suppose I will never know the answer, but it does just go to show that you never know what that next bite could be!
