Bala Azul 1–0 Mazarrón FC

Mazarrón FC suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat in the local derby against Bala Azul at the Estadio Playa Sol, in a game that ultimately proved as frustrating off the pitch as it was on it.
There was little to separate the two sides during much of the opening period, with both teams battling hard for control in a typically competitive local derby.
Mazarrón looked to settle into the contest and create opportunities, but Bala Azul remained well organised and made it difficult for the visitors to find a decisive opening.
However, just before the interval, Bala Azul struck what proved to be the decisive blow. Tomás Cruz Adarve found the net in the 45th minute to give the home side a 1–0 lead going into the break.
From a Mazarrón perspective, the first half was also notable for the number of stoppages. Bala Azul appeared determined to disrupt the flow of the game, and the referee’s whistle seemed to be working overtime. At one stage, you could have been forgiven for thinking it might need replacing at half-time!
Mazarrón came out for the second half knowing they needed a response and pushed for an equaliser. Despite their efforts, however, they were unable to find the goal they needed.
Bala Azul defended their advantage and managed the closing stages effectively to claim all three points.
For Mazarrón, it was another frustrating narrow defeat following the 2–1 home loss to Cotillas in the opening home fixture. The result leaves Mazarrón still searching for their first points of the new Tercera Federación campaign, while Bala Azul move on to four points from their opening two matches.
The final whistle brought an unsavoury end to an already feisty derby. Bala Azul celebrated their victory with plenty of emotion, almost as though they had won the league, before tensions boiled over between the players.
The aftermath culminated in two red cards, one for each side. There were also six yellow cards shown to Mazarrón and five to Bala Azul, underlining just how heated the contest had become.
Derby matches are always passionate affairs, but ultimately the football should be what takes centre stage. Hopefully, the players can put the incidents behind them and concentrate on what matters most — getting points on the board.
The derby may have gone Bala Azul’s way this time, but there is a long season ahead. As the saying goes, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
