5/25 PRESS RELEASE (Austin, TX)
With rounds 7 & 8 completed, the 2024 UBA Gold Conference Tournament is set. On June 23, the semi final will tip-off at 2:05pm with the championship to follow shortly after its conclusion.
Winning the regular season and earning 1st place seeding in the tournament is the Waco Terror with a record of 7-1. In what looked to be a conference championship run in their first year in the conference, Terror’s owner and coach William Hill informed UBA Gold director AJ Irwin of their tournament forfeiture. Hill stated, “It’s an unfortunate situation for our organization, especially as well as we performed during the regular season. We will be back next season to finish the job.”
With an overall record of 5-3, finishing as the regular season runner-up is the Austin Greeners. “Watching our younger guys follow our leadership and understanding what their roles are,” Geoff stated, “I believe that’s what separates good from great, and we were able to put together some Greener greatness these past few games.” In light of the Terror forfeiture, the Greeners earn a bye in the tournament and are set to play in the championship game.
Finishing the regular season at 4-4, the Cedar Park Claws will play in the semifinal for a chance to win their 2nd straight UBA gold conference championship. They did not earn a bye but they’ve been here before. Claws co-owner/player Brian Elarms proclaimed, “We’ve been here before and this is nothing new to us. All we have to do is execute our game plan. We do that, everything else will take care of itself.” They look to repeat their winning ways again at this years conference tournament.
With a deceiving record of 3-5, the Capital City Jokers will again face the Claws in the tournament semifinal for a chance to play in the conference championship. “Last year we competed well in every game, but the 2nd half was not kind to us,” owner/player Marvin Wigfall stated, “but this season we turned those close games into wins and now we have some serious momentum. We’re ready for the semifinal rematch. The Claws are tough but now, it’s our time.”
