It was incredible to watch Marcelo not only race at IRONMAN Jacksonville, but to witness the dedication he showed throughout the entire training cycle leading up to it.
This winter in New Jersey was brutally cold, yet Marcelo did everything possible to prepare for the heat he would face on race day. On warmer days, he ran in layers. He biked in layers. He even built a heat chamber around his bike trainer using shower curtains and heaters to simulate race conditions.
Every detail mattered. He dialed in his bike fit down to the millimeter. He knew exactly how much hydration he needed, and when he needed it. Nothing was left to chance.
The result?
An incredible 10:11 official finish, a personal record, and a Top 7 Age Group finish.
But what stood out even more than the result was the person behind it.
During the bike leg, Marcelo stopped to help an injured rider get to safety. In the middle of his own race, he didn’t hesitate for a second to make sure a fellow athlete was okay — potentially preventing something much worse.
That says everything about who he is.
His preparation. His dedication to the craft. The way he supports and inspires everyone on the team. It’s unmatched.
We appreciate you, we salute you, and we’re proud to have you represent the club. 👏🔥
