Are you fighting or playing chess? ♟️
Something I’ve been asking myself recently after Bjj rounds…but is the perfect analogy for life also. 🛟
I was leaving practice for a few weeks asking myself this question, was I fighting or playing chess & the answer was I was mainly fighting. (In the limbic brain) 🧠
So just over a couple weeks ago I took a few days to mentally go over a new approach. 📈
The plan was to try and stay completely relaxed & conscious during rounds & use explosiveness, strength, athleticism only when needed. To be in the frontal lobes 🧠
I implemented this plan from last Saturday’s open Mat, for the past week & throughout todays open Mat & it’s been my best week of rounds since I began while burning through 1/8 of the energy. ⚡️
The same lesson could be implemented into your everyday life, are you fighting trying to force outcomes burning through energy in survival mode or are you playing chess? Being present, conscious, strategic, responsive rather than reactive, knowing when to fight & when to adjust or be flexible of mind, not knowing all the answers but trusting the process. ⛴️🛸
It’s cool to see the parallels between the approach of Bjj & life but as the saying goes “How you do anything is how you do everything” ☝️
Everything you’ve ever done started with a thought, if you improve the quality of your thoughts you improve the quality of your entire life & it may even help you become better at choking people 😝🥋
