Sometimes starting over is the only option. While testing a new technique, the rear wheel alignment wasn’t perfect. So I scrapped the frame and built an entirely new frame.

The final frame shows off classic construction without any 3D parts and a raw sandblasted finish. It’s a versatile gravel bike that transforms smoothly for the road by changing out the wheels.

Although it meant putting in twice the work, I won’t give a frame to a client unless it’s exactly right. The process remained seamless for the client and the original lead time was still met.

A look behind the scenes of my latest full-suspension, titanium MTB frame.

With the support from César Rojo at UNNO, I was able to create my first titanium full-suspension bike. Using the UNNO rear triangle and hardware, I engineered the rest of the frame around its geometry and kinematics—with custom details throughout.

The final build came together at Minati Cycles, where Javi put the finishing touches on the bike with his own two hands.

Shoutout to Luis, the owner of this bike, for pushing me to make this happen.

Big thanks to Alvaro for creating this video that captures a bit of what went into this special project.

A 3D integrated titanium gravel bike for Fernando.

He was seeking something different for his next bike and reached out after hearing about my work. We had one conversation and from there it was pedal to the metal—full trust, no doubts, no rush. My craft is truly collaborative and clients like Fernando are what make these projects special.

This is big.

I couldn’t be more excited to share the second full-suspension MTB and my first in titanium.
Luis has one of my earliest gravel frames, so when he inquired about whether a full-suspension, titanium MTB was possible, I was stoked. The day after speaking with him, UNNO launched their new bike–serendipitous timing. So I reached out to from UNNO and explained the vision. He was generous enough to support the project. The goal was clear: use UNNO’s rear triangle and hardware, respect the geometry and kinematics, and engineer the rest of the frame based on these pillars.

Here are some of the technical highlights:
-Hidden shock
-Massive 3D-printed BB cluster with a 91.5 T47. With a few hours of manual machining after a couple of mistakes by the printer…sh*t happens
-Fully custom headtube (IS52 lower / EC44 upper).
-Mix-and-match Chris King headset
-Gold anodized details with carbon painted to match

This won’t become a standard model. I’ll make a few more, so if you’re seriously interested, reach out sooner rather than later.

Remember that incredibly illuminating trip I did last year to Grodeo and then around the U.S. visiting fellow framebuilders? It was about time to properly share the complete story.

“The trip began in Steamboat Springs—home to Moots and Bingham Built—and expanded into a tour of workshops across the region. I witnessed, up close, different ways to build bikes as well as different ways to build a life around them.”

Meet the fourth frame I’ve built for Mr. L: an all-road stainless frame. He’s already requested another different frame for later this year. I don’t have favorite clients, but he’s without a doubt the most loyal one so far. I’m grateful to work with people who trust the process and value my craft. Check out more about the bike below:

Full Columbus XCR stainless steel — the best you can get and always a pleasure to weld. The shell comes painted deep purple, with touches of raw stainless shining through. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, this is another frame with external, mechanical routing.

Aside from its stunning pearl finish, this steel frame shows off: full Chris King components and a one-piece ENVE AR cockpit. Ready for whatever big gravel adventures lie around the corner and for many years of riding still to come.

“I’ve had the bike for six months now and I can only say good things about both the bike and Rubén. It’s an incredibly comfortable bike that climbs well and spins even better. It quick and responsive and it’s incredible how fell it descends! It may sound like a cliché, but it really feels like an extension of your body. You notice it even more when you get back on your old bike and compare how each one rides. Not a single ache, no tingling or numbness—you can spend hours on the bike completely at ease, with your own strength as the only limit.

The finish is spectacular, and the welds are close to perfection. Rubén pays attention to every detail, almost obsessively (in the best possible way), and the care he puts into his work is obvious when you hold the frame in your hands and see just how well made it is.

The customer service is also excellent. He makes sure the whole process meets the client’s expectations and is always there to answer any questions or solve any issues that come up.

In short, I have exactly the bike I was looking for. I’d do it again a thousand times—but I don’t need to, because this bike is perfect.”

“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” -T.S. Eliot

Even the best builds can reach their limits.

A client requested the lightest possible frame with an integrated seatpost, so I chose the lightest tubing available. The construction went smoothly; however, the seat tube had to absorb all the load and eventually failed.

As the frame was under warranty—and because I take pride in caring for my clients and their machines—it made its way back to the workshop. I took it apart, installed a stronger seat tube, and completely rebuilt it. After lots of hours and care, the bike is now essentially brand new and ready for many more kilometers.

Pushing boundaries sometimes exposes weaknesses, but it also forces innovation.

Here’s what goes into each frame I make: dirty hands, long hours, and lots of careful craftsmanship. No Black Friday. Just real work and human connection with each cyclist to create something they’ll love and use for their entire life.

Thanks and .visual for the photos.

Simple, timeless, and built to ride forever: Mr. L’s road bike with disc brakes. Details to highlight about this unique frame: UDH stainless dropouts (a standard on all my frames), external mechanical routing (which feels almost exotic these days), Spirit front triangle and a custom lightweight rear end.

The custom paint-job follows my signature curved color transition: a small design that keeps each bike unmistakably mine, even when the client asks for inspiration from another.

Mr. L and I have collaborated on four bikes in two years; from steel to titanium, passing through stainless.

By the way, I still make steel bikes.
