Sheila Chepkirui has won the Valencia Half Marathon in 1:03:51, and that number deserves a second look.

She arrived with an entry best of 1:06:01 and bib 212, well down a field led by Yalemzerf Yehualaw, Tsigie Gebreselama and Ftaw Zerai. On the fastest half marathon course in the world, in the deepest women’s field of the autumn, she took more than two minutes off her listed best and beat all of them.

She is 35, and already has a New York City Marathon title and a 2:17:29 marathon best to her name.
