Not every surfskater wants to hear this… 😅
You’re here to learn snaps, pivots, and stylish turns. But here’s the truth:
Your biggest progress starts with mastering your bottom turns and carving. 🌊
In this video, Andrea breaks down a frontside bottom turn and shows how solid fundamentals unlock everything that comes next.
🔥 Frontside Bottom Turn Tips
✔️ Stay compressed throughout the turn.
✔️ Put pressure on your front rail (your toes).
✔️ Keep your chest and head as low as possible. More compression = more speed.
✔️ Before entering the ramp, make sure your chest is already facing the ramp. Avoid finishing the turn with your back shoulder leading.
🛹 Carving on the Ramp
✔️ Build confidence gradually. You don’t need to ride to the top of the ramp straight away. Start by carving near the bottom and progress step by step.
✔️ Stay compressed while you’re on the ramp.
✔️ Lead with your head. Your shoulders and hips will naturally follow.
✔️ The more you rotate your upper body, the tighter and more controlled your carve becomes.
One of our favourite drills is shadowing. 👥
Here, .ella follows Andrea and mirrors every movement. Copying someone in real time is a fantastic way to build muscle memory and develop better technique.
Master the basics first… and you’ll be surprised how much easier snaps, pivots, and other advanced manoeuvres become. 🤙
