Many will know that Ciara was admitted in to Alder Hey Hospitals on Monday Sept 4th.

Sadly, Ciara passed away at 5.45am yesterday, with both Gayle and I with her.

Ciara has proven throughout her life what a fighter she is, and continued to do so over the past 5 weeks. However, this sadly proved to be one battle too many.

We are heartbroken but take some comfort knowing that she is now at peace.

No arrangements have yet been made for her funeral, but for anyone wishing to attend, I will post details once plans have been finalised.

Good luck to Ian Harcourt who is taking on a 12 hour ride today in Yorkshire, as he ramps up his training ahead of the National 24 hour TT Championships on July 22nd.

Thank you Ian for again getting involved in the fight against Rett Syndrome and fundraising for Reverse Rett . We very much appreciate it!🚴🏻‍♂️👍

Only 4 more days left to go of Sofia’s 5x50 Challenge for Reverse Rett!👍

Day 46 was a 12k ride out along the Chester Greenway together with her sister Ciara, the inspiration behind all of our fundraising.

As we are now allowed back in to Wales, Sofia’s activity for tomorrow (Day 47) will be going up and down Moel Famau (a big hill in N.Wales for those who don’t know).

Again, thank you so much to all who have supported Sofia’s first venture in to the world of fundraising.🙏

It was a thumbs up from Sofia this afternoon as she completed day 40 of her 5x50 Challenge for Reverse Rett with another 10k ride.

A couple of days ago Sofia received an email from Justgiving, congratulating her on being one of the top 5% of fundraisers for the month of March. So again, thank you so much to those who have supported her. It means so much!

With now only 10 days of her challenge left to go, the finish line is very much in sight.

A week on Saturday (the penultimate day of her challenge), Sofia will being doing a 50k ride. This will be her longest ever ride. The following day, she will finish off her challenge with a ride alongside Ciara.

As she now closes in on the £2000 mark, if anyone else would like to make a donation, her JustGiving link is below. 🙏

Today’s plan is for a 100+ mile training ride aka the ‘4 Cafes Ride’ as the training builds up towards another crack at the ......a single 500 mile ride over the weekend of June 19/20th for Reverse Rett.

The alarm going off at 5am was grim this morning, but a small price to pay for hopefully getting back home in plenty of time to eat Easter Eggs with the kids!

One of the countless ways in which those who suffer from having Rett Syndrome, is that in the main, they can’t enjoy the simple pleasure of eating an Easter Egg. Sending an Easter Egg down Ciara’s feeding tube simply won’t work and to eat one orally, may well land her in hospital.

Today’s ride is going to be very much fuelled by caffeine and mini eggs!

Ciara’s 8-year-old little sister, Sofia, is really excited to be taking on her very first fundraising challenge for Reverse Rett.

Next Sunday, she will start her 5x50 Challenge, where for 50 consecutive days she will either cycle, run or roller skate a minimum of 5K.

When asked about why she wants to do this, her reply was instant and to the point.....”I love Ciara so much and I want to help fix Rett Syndrome”.

When spending a couple of hours on an indoor trainer, having something half decent to watch definitely helps pass the time.

Over the past couple of days (yes, I’ve watched it twice) LFC’s new film, ‘The End of The Storm, did the trick.

Earlier this week, my motivation to train took a hit, following Ciara’s annual Orthopaedic review over at Alder Hey (due to COVID it is now 2 years since her last review).

It was made as clear as day to us that Ciara is very much at the centre of her own storm....her fight with Rett Syndrome.

The x-rays taken at Alder Hey showed that her spinal scoliosis has significantly worsened and a knock on effect is that her left hip is now partially dislocated.

The upshot of this is that she is now going to need two major surgeries. This is something we always feared would happen at some point. We just hoped it would have been a few more years down the line.

Ciara’s battle against Rett Syndrome will only get tougher over the coming years. Unless that promise of a cure is actually realised, we know it will only end badly.

After a couple of days feeling completely flat, it has been a case of trying to be as positive as possible, focusing again of that hope for a cure and for me, literally getting back on the bike.

If fate is to dictate that a cure awaits Ciara at the end of her storm, then continuing to ride through that storm is exactly what I’ll continue to do, for as long as it takes. 🚴🏻‍♂️💗

It was hammer time on the bike tonight....getting carried away by pretending I was chasing an F1 car (what a k..b!)....but a fun workout nonetheless 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨🥵

This past week has seen some incredible support for with the Big Give and Big Night In. Hopefully this support will continue in to 2021 and right up to the point when Rett Syndrome is cured.

Next year will mark 10 years since my little girl, Ciara, was diagnosed. As such, I intend to honour the strength and fighting spirit of not only Ciara, but all those who suffer from this horrible condition, by spending more time than ever on the bike, in an effort to keep raising awareness and fundraising for

To that end, training for 2021 is well underway and over the Xmas period I will be taking part in the , riding 500 Km between Xmas Eve and New Years Eve.

This will hopefully serve as a decent block of training for what I am planning for next year (the beans, I will spillearly in the New Year)

In the meantime, stay safe and have a great Xmas 🚴🏻‍♂️💗
