Most people over estimate what they can do in one gaining phase but underestimate what they can do when they stack them over & over.

So many people are leaving gains on the table because they aren’t willing to play the long game.

Stuck in a cycle of bulk for winter, diet for Summer, leaving them looking the same every year

Rather than really making the most of their early years of training when they are most primed to grow.

Building a level of muscle mass beyond what the average gym goer can do is the ultimate test of delaying gratification.

But that doesn’t mean you have to wait years for a pay off - you just shift your attention to the process which gives you the micro rewards.

Ben has competed in 4 powerlifting competitions in those years leaning into performance.

Taking his squat from 140kg to 220kg, his deadlift from 200kg to 275kg - rinsing & repeating programmes built for him, a formula we know that works.

Some of you reading this will think “Jesus that’s a long time to be putting in all that effort”.

Cool, you clearly don’t have the mindset needed to make great progress.

The time is gonna pass anyway & if you are gonna set the goal of building the physique of your dreams, you may as well give it your all.

And if you need a coach who knows exactly how you can get there - You can start your journey by sending me a DM

Ep 60 of The Strength Syndicate is live 🎙️

Myself & Lawrence catch up to speed after a 2 year break from recording.

Having both changed tracks from powerlifting in recent times we reflected on our experiences in the sport & how some of our perspectives have changed.

One of those being the “need” for powerlifters to really push up to the next class or is it better to fill out the one you are most naturally suited for?

One of the topics we covered is Lawrence’s recent fat loss having lost 20kg & the improvements he has seen in his endurance work.

A low hanging fruit for many athletes & it’s interesting how it contrast with our previous sport of powerlifting where to improve performance most people actively gain weight.

This situation happens more than is recognised

Fair play to the company for owning up to the fact they made a mistake & for reimbursing their customers…

But! There is always responsibility on the customer too & the supplement industry hasn’t got the cleanest track record when it comes to labelling.

There was the MusclePharm amino spiking scandal who Arnold Schwarzenegger himself backed & instances of companies even adding pro-hormones or other anabolic agents (Puscasiu, 2025).

The supplement industry has f**k all regulation, it’s not like pharmaceuticals.

You can make a product & push it to market through whitelabel sites online in less than a day.

By the time a product is caught for making false claims or under dosing the harm has already be done.

Whether thats just not hitting the actual macros you thought, a failed drug test or worse.

Natural athletes should be buying from NSF or Informed Sport brands, not from their favourite bodybuilder or influencer (most of them are literally earning off a product of course they will big it up 😂)

Something to think about coming up to your next show or your next powerlifting comp.

Whats the old maxim? Buyer beware 👀

2 weeks to go & we are wrapping up this stint of gaining for the pre prep diet.

To be honest I’m pretty meh with how I look at the moment 😂

At this stage of gaining with body fat being higher than it’s been in a while I’m just focusing on following the plan more than the body composition- Do what I’m told by coach & “trust the process”.

Ultimately I know getting to this point where I’m a tad bit uncomfortable is necessary for new progress.

Every phase, every new bit of progress you wanna see will require you to get familiar with discomfort, it’s the key behind many great physiques.

So if it’s hard, if it sucks at points, if it makes you want to stop - good, you are on the right track.

Two weeks left to crush, then we unveil the work & we have one more short build before prep begins 💪🏼

The real secret to building big arms

It’s about quality, not load.

I know a handful of people who curl the 20s & beyond that look like they also curl that much.

But I know a lot more that are using the 20s (we won’t say curling as it’s more of a running motion) that look like they need to use the 10s.

Fellas, this ain’t powerlifting where we are trying to be as efficient with the weight & move it from A-B.

Nope, if you want bigger arms its about making the movement as inefficient as possible.

Restrict the movement to the point where all that can contribute is the bicep or tricep.

No bouncing out of the bottom using stretch reflex or momentum.

Not throwing so much hip & knee into it you are a movement away from a clean & jerk.

Control from stretch to contraction.

I audit my lads training each week in their check ins & while their ego takes a hit when I call them up on this - they grow bigger pipes 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s a completely different & much more challenging way to train them but it’s effective most importantly.

You probably are doing the right exercises & doing enough volume, you just need to do it better, simple as.

Take the hit now, reduce the load, master the movement & those shirt sleeves will feel a lot tighter in the next few weeks.

And if you are looking to have the rest of your physique upgraded & get your training reviewed with a fine tooth comb - drop me a DM as I have coaching spaces available coming into September 💪🏼
