This morning we kicked off the new league season with a home match against La Romana. Our first game since July and no training during August, we were alittle apprehensive how the game was going to unfold.

We started well, controlling the game with calm and good passing. 10 minutes in we were 2 goals ahead thanks to Churri. La Romana then started to get into the game, and with a good cross pulled a goal back 2-1 Lions.

Once again we started to press the game, forcing errors and with Churri causing problems up front, we were 4-1 (Churri 4 goals).

3rd quarter, and now with a comfortable lead Rich subbed Churri with Luis. A totally different striker from Churri, but Luis scored 3 goals. LA Romana were still fighting and a good free kick made it 7-2 Lions.

4th Quarter Rich made a final substitution with Brian coming on for Angel. Both teams still fighting for every ball, Gary added a further 2 goals and Paco 1.

A great game, both teams fought hard with team spirit and sportsmanship. Thank you to Shaun for refereeing a good game, final score 10 - 2 Fortuna Lions.

Just a few beers to celebrate the of the season, and present our runners up trophy for the league to one of our sponsors Antonio at bar Pachup. A big thanks to Richard for his time and support.

Today the over 60's Lion's hosted Benijofar WFC over 60's. Considering this team has not even trained together, let alone played together it was a big leap into the unknown.

1st quarter, Lion's passed the ball well and had some good procession at times. Benijofar started to get into their stride and ended up 0 - 2 up end of the quarter.

2nd quater, Rich made a couple of changes for the Lion's which paid off with a goal 1 -2. Both teams were feeling the heat now, temperatures mid 30's! Benijofar started moving the ball around nicely, and a good strike saw the ball in our net once more, 1 - 3. The Lion's worked hard and got a controversial free kick which they converted nicely. 2- 3. This gave the Lion's a boost and shortly equalised with a good strike.
3 - 3 end of quarter.

3rd quarter, again both team's making changes mainly due to the heat. This quarter both team's were cancelling out each other. 3-3 with 15 minutes left.

4th quarter, Lion's started brightly moving the ball around. The ball fell to Gary who struck with vemon and hit the back of the net. Lion's in front for the first time 4 - 3. Benijofar were pressing hard and chasing every ball now. And it paid off with an equaliser 4 - 4. Both team's worked hard in the heat, final result 4 - 4.

Well done to both team's, played with good spirit and sportsmanship. Thank you to Benijofar WFC, and Barry for refereeing.

Today the Lions travelled to Hondon De Nieves for a 10am friendly against the Hondon Flyers. Rich decided to change players normal positions with us entering an over 60's team next season. Overall a convincing win and more importantly a clean sheet. Played in good spirits with temperatures already in the 30's.
Thank you to Hondon Flyers and Barry for refereeing. Also thanks to Tipsy Terrace for hosting players afterwards with food and drinks.

Lovely meal at a Greek restaurant in Fortuna last night for the Ladies to mark the end of the season. Too hot now to continue training, but training will start again in September, Thursday nights at 8.30pm..age 35+, all welcome. Please message for more information. Enjoy the summer everyone x 🦁⚽️🦁⚽️
