Today we hosted Portobello in our final game of the Leauge season. A much anticipated match as the Lions needed a win to keep pressure on The Hub.

11 am kickoff and the temperature was already hitting 30+. Fortuna Lions were very disciplined and pressured Portobello from the off. Lion's working hard paid off with a free kick. Puas passed to Gary who finished very well, 1 - 0 Lion's. Next was good open play and Luis scored top right corner giving their goalkeeper no chance. Lion's 2 - 0 up.Things started to even out and Portobello got more into the game. However a side tackle in the area gave us a penalty. Gary took control and scored from the spot.

3rd quarter Lion's were cruising, but our own devil, running offences caught us up, penalty Portobello. Banksy yet again came to our rescue! 3 - 0 Lion's. Portobello still pushing, great shot, but thanks to Jeff great save however our player ended up in the area. Penalty Portobello, who this time converted even though Banksy got a good hand to it. 3-1 Lion's. The game plan was starting to fall apart. Portobello pressing well scored a goal from open play. 3-2 Fortuna Lions. A poor back pass saw Banksy having to make a save but committed a foul, penalty to Portobello. Another fine save from Banksy, but we were sitting on 3 running offences with 4 minutes left!

4th Quarter we got in to rhythm and heads back. Playing and past the ball confidentially and controlling the game once again. Some good midfield play saw Añgel free on the right and with space mananged to squeeze a shot passed the goalkeeper. Final score Lion's 4 - Portobello 2.

2nd place secured, we now need The Orange Bar to beat The Hub for 1st place.

Today we travelled to La Romana for a Leauge fixture. We are currently sitting in 3rd and La Romana bottom of the league, which doesn't do justice to their performances in the league and recent tournaments. Confident from our game on Friday we went with a positive mind-set and high energy. However, from the first whistle we were flat and couldn't pass the ball. This continued into the 2nd quarter and we were getting frustrated by our lack of quality. Luis got injured and luckily Churri had arrived from his work place. Then we got a free kick which was taken quickly by Puas, a one two with Añgel who took a strong pass to Churri who in turn allowed the ball to pass through his legs which then passed through the goalkeepers legs. 1- 0 The Lion's. This was quickly followed by a second goal for The Lion's 2-0.
With a 2 goal cushion we now started to play good football, Alex and Stephen joined the action from the subs bench. and increased the lead to 5-0. Final quarter La Romana were awarded a penalty for 4 running offences but weren't able to convert it. Keeping the pressure on we got another goal, final score La Romana 0 - Fortuna Lions 6

Tomorrow we travel to La Romana for an away leauge fixture. No doubt a tricky match as we need a win to keep pressure on the top 2 teams. Please come along and support both team's.

Today we hosted The Hub in an anticipated top 3 leauge clash. Obviously both team's wanted a win as mathematically all 3 top teams can still win the Leauge. The Lion's started very well and high pressed The Hub in their own half for the first 5 minutes. The Hub then got into there rhythm with both team's creating chances. Towards the end of the first half the rain came, making conditions tricky. The Hub got a free kick and a well taken strike beat Banksy to his far post, 1-0 The Hub with the last kick of the quarter.
With the rain persistent both team's were striking the ball towards goal hoping the slippery surface would hinder the goalkeepers. The Lion's were pushing hard for the equaliser and were awarded a penalty due to a tackle from behind in the box, and Churrie converted it nicely. Both team's were pushing hard and creating chances, it was Churrie who was causing The Hub problems and a great strike made it 2-1 to The Lion's. Banksy pulled off some great saves to keep it that score line.
3rd quarter The Hub still pressing us in the rain paid off with a quick equaliser minutes into the quarter 2-2. As a mutual spectator it must have been a good game to watch as both team's were playing some great football. The Hub striked the ball just outside of the box and it took a slight deflection off a defender and left Banksy wrong footed, 3-2 The Hub.
Final quarter the rain finally stopped, Rich made 2 changes for The Lion's bringing on Luis for Churri, and Alex for Paco. We were pushing hard for that equaliser, but just couldn't find the target. Then a long ball from Gary was somehow volleyed past The Hubs goalkeeper Steve by substitute Alex. Great finish giving the goalkeeper no chance. 3-3, and all to play for! Both team's pushing hard for the winner, but it ended 3-3. On reflection a draw was a fair result. Thank you to The Hub for a great game and good sportsmanship as always.
