Surf Focus Fuerteventura Surf Focus Fuerteventura provides surf coaching and surf skate training in the North of Fuerteventura, Canary Islands.

Specialising in small group classes, you will get individual tuition which will rapidly progress your surfing. Pricing is as follows:

-Individual 1 on 1 surf class (4hr lesson, 2hrs in the water plus theory and traning) €60

-Group surf class up to 4 people max (4hr lesson) €40 per person

-Surf guiding up to 4 people max €40 per person

-Surf Skate training individual 1 on 1 (1hr lesson) €40

-Full Surf Skate and Surf Session class, individual 1 on 1 (4-5hr lesson) €80

-Full Surf Skate and Surf Session group class up to 4 people max (4-5hr lesson) €55 pp

Pricing does not include equipment but this can be organised by us from surf shops before your stay at reasonable rates around €10-15 per day for board, wetsuit, boots depending on duration. Surf Focus head coach Chris Blakey is an ISA and Beach Lifesaving qualified Surf Instructor, having worked at some of the best schools in North Fuerteventura including 7 Island, Billabong and Wave Riders. He can cater classes to your level from beginner to advanced, incorporating surf skate training to really focus your surfing technique so you can get more out of your waves. The surf skate can be a really great way to unlock the body movements for surf turning, something that can take time to progress in the water. We can provide small group classes for up to 4 people, as well as surf guiding for surfers with competent level, looking to explore new spots and parts of the island, with some surf tips and tuition included.

Great class yesterday with Carl, he’s at intermediate level with his surfing. We got out early on a reef in the North, getting some clean, solid conditions. After he made some nice drops, I watched from the front one of his take off and noticed his shoulder positioning was a bit closed, meaning he wasn’t getting the best line out of the wave. Now it’s time for the surf skate. Using this, he was able to start opening his shoulders with his stance, and in just one session improve his turning technique. We had really good conditions today for surfing! In the morning we had an intermediate session on a right hander on a reef in the North, working on green wave take offs. Then in the afternoon, beginner session on a mellow reef, working on the pop up with this dramatic backdrop!

I’m really enjoying this week surf guiding with Edoardo. This morning we went for an early one and it paid off, clean and glassy conditions, top session 🤙 surf guiding is useful for surfers visiting the island with some level, who don’t necessarily want technique tuition, but rather showing around some spots, choosing for the best conditions for a given day, and giving some tips in the water. It has been great having Matt Blakey visiting the island the last few weeks. I’ve been helping him with some carver training, here is him working on a backside snap on a Carver Skateboards, notice the upper body rotation and back foot kicking out backwards to drive round the board and give that slide at the end of the turn 🤙

The Surf Skate or Carver Skateboards can be a good tool for use in surf training out of the water. They are great for working on body positioning and compressing into turns, plus you can isolate one movement to try multiple times in a row, which can sometimes be more difficult in the waves. Here is an example of a forehand cutback in a bowl, ramps and bowls are a great way to emulate the wave for the more intermediate and advanced techniques. We can also offer beginner Surf Skate classes on flat ground, to help you get accustomed to controlling the board. Surf Skate can be offered as part of a surf lesson for the full experience! Surf Focus Fuerteventura offers private surf lessons and small group classes in the North of Fuerteventura. Here on the island we have a great range of waves from beginner beach breaks to barreling reefs, so it's the perfect place to work on your surfing whatever your level! Best waves are from October until April, but the summer months still have waves too. Your surf coach, Chris Blakey, has years of experience teaching and surfing on the island as well as ISA, surf lifesaver qualifications so will make sure you are safe in the water and take you to a place that caters specifically to your level. Surf guiding groups can also be arranged for more competent surfers, looking to explore spots around the island, with advice on spots, entry and exit points as well as tips in the water from Chris. Surf Skate training can be taken separately, or included in a class to give a half day full surf experience, which is the best way to focus in on your surf techniques!
