The history of SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA started in 1985. This was a beginning of a project, which until then had only been a dream. The aim was to create a full time, professional skydiving centre. The initial project was so successful that during the first year 25.000 jumps were
made, making SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA one of the leading skydiving centres in Europe at that time. Since then SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA has grown to become one of the top three skydiving centers in the world, achieving 134.000 jumps for the year 2001. To date over 1.000.000 jumps have been made at SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA since it’s beginnings in 1985. SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA began with a staff of just 5 people and now employs over 40 people, and has generated a series of satellite businesses around itself. These businesses include parachute manufacturers, manufacturers of various sports material related to skydiving such as jumpsuits, helmets, gloves etc. as well as various skydiving schools and adventure sports agencies. Approximately another 50 people working for these satellite businesses depend on the activity generated by the SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA. SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA doesn’t only dedicate its activities to experienced skydivers alone; it has also brought skydiving within the reach of the man-on-the-street through tandem jumps. Every year, thousands of people make their first jump without any prior formal skydiving training. They were able to make their dream to fly come true doing a tandem jump accompanied by a professional instructor. They were a part of the more than 100.000 people who have chosen SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA to do their first Tandem jump throughout the center’s history. Skydive Empuriabrava has also participated in the past in functions organized by as well as for the community, by doing exhibition jumps in various events such as inaugurations, celebrations and as well as fund raising activities. SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA is the organizer of several other international events such as the Surf Inn Speed star challenge, the Open Skyrats Trophy and the Captains Cabin Canopy Formation Challenge. It is responsible for bringing together an international concentration of skydivers for skydiving festival events such as the Easter Boogie and the Christmas Boogie. The Christmas Boogie alone attracts over 700 skydivers from all over the world for three weeks in December and January. Due to the privileged situation and the infrastructure that it possesses, SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA has become one of the primary training destinations for many of the top skydiving teams in the world, such as France and Russia. SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA is also the home of the Spanish National Team in Formation Skydiving, the French and former World Champion Freefly Team, and the French Freestyle (Men’s) Team. Every year SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA attracts over 25.000 people to Empuriabrava, including skydivers and accompanying people. This is especially interesting for the tourist area of Castelló d´Empuries as this brings a constant flow of tourists throughout the year, which in most cases covers the low season. Due to these circumstances SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA has been awarded prizes for promotion of tourism in Castelló d´ Empuries for which it received the “Espiga y Timó” from the town council of Castello d’Empuries as well as the “XXII Nit del Turisme” prize from the school of tourism in Girona and “el Sol de la Costa Brava” from the ATA. SKYDIVE EMPURIABRAVA has been the determining factor in the choice of selection of Castelló d´Empuries – Empuriabrava by the tourist department of the Generalitat of Catalunya, as one of three “Sports Tourist Destinations” in Catalunya and Girona. In 2010, Skydive Empuriabrava has been awarded with the Diploma Turístic de Catalunya by the Generalitat de Catalunya for its contribution to the promotion of the tourism in Catalonia.

La historia del centro de paracaidismo Skydive Empuriabrava empezó en Octubre de 1985, haciendo realidad un proyecto que hasta entonces sólo parecía un sueño para unos y una quimera para otros, la creación de un centro profesional de paracaidismo. Este experimento tuvo tanto éxito que durante el primer año se realizaron 25.000 saltos, una cifra impensable en la época y que colocó a Skydive Empuriabrava a la cabeza de Europa. Desde entonces este Centro de Paracaidismo ha ido creciendo hasta convertirse en uno de los tres mejores y más grandes del mundo sobrepasando en los últimos ejercicios la cifra de 120.000 saltos anuales. El pasado año 2003, Skydive Empuriabrava cumplió 18 años de existencia, y al mismo tiempo que su mayoría de edad alcanzó la mágica cifra de 1.000.000 de saltos en paracaídas. Se convirtió nuevamente en la referencia de todos, al ser el primer Centro de Paracaidismo del Mundo en conseguir estos guarismos. Skydive Empuriabrava, que empezó con una plantilla de cinco personas, además de haber ampliado sus instalaciones y el números de empleados que, en la actualidad, son más de 50, ha generado en la zona una serie de empresas satélite alrededor suyo. Desde fabricantes de paracaídas, hasta fabricantes de material deportivo, ropa técnica, escuelas deportivas, mantenimiento de paracaídas y aviones, accesorios, agencias de viajes específicas, etc. se abastecen de nuestros clientes ofreciendoles sus servicios. La escuela de paracaidismo de Skydive Empuriabrava no solo se ha dedicado a la actividad deportiva, sinó que ha acercado este deporte hasta ponerlo al alcance de cualquier persona. Cada año, miles de personas, sin preparación paracaidística alguna, hicen realidad su sueño de “volar”, realizando un salto en paracaídas acompañados por un instructor profesional. Desde que en 1985 la escuela de Skydive Empuriabrava introdujera en Europa este innovador sistema de salto en paracaídas, el Tandem, mas de 100.000 personas lo han probado, creándose una demanda de este servicio en progresión ascendente. Además de un sinfín de otras competiciones menores, concentraciones, seminarios, etc. Skydive Empuriabrava ha querido además participar de la vida de su entorno y colaborar en algunos momentos importantes en la vida de todos, realizando saltos de exhibición en diversos acontecimientos como inauguraciones, celebraciones de diversa índole, recaudaciones de fondos benéficas...
Debido a su privilegiada situación y las instalaciones de que dispone, Skydive Empuriabrava se ha convertido en el lugar de entrenamiento de las mejores selecciones de paracaidismo, como los actuales campeones del Mundo: Rusia y Francia. Es además el hogar del equipo Nacional Español y del equipo Campeón del Mundo de Freefly. Skydive Empuriabrava atrae cada año a unas 25.000 personas entre paracaidistas y acompañantes, creando un flujo continuo de turistas a la zona, especialmente interesante porque es uniforme a lo largo del año y normalmente de estancia prolongada, sin temporada baja. Esta circunstancia nos ha hecho merecedores de algunos premios como el Espiga y Timó del Ayuntamiento de Castelló d’Empuries, el premio de la XXII Noche del Turismo de la Escuela de Turismo de Girona, o el Sol de la Costa Brava de la ATA entre otros, y ha sido determinante en la elección de Castelló d’Empuries como “Destino Turístico Deportivo” (DTE) de la Generalitat de Cataluña. El 2010 Skydive Empuriabrava ha recibido de mano de la Generalitat el Diploma Turístic de Catalunya en reconocimiento a su destacada contribución al fomento del turismo en Catalunya.
