Makomay Eq. is an equine performance center based in Carmona, Spain, 15 minutes from Seville Airport and 25 minutes from the capital of Andalusia’s vibrant city center.
It is home to Makomay Sporthorses SL, a company founded by international showjumper Cassandre Malherbe. Cassandre is a former member of the Belgian eventing team. Before switching to showjumping, Cassandre has had several qualifications for the European Championships where she won team silver and team bronze for Belgium.
We are strategically located, within 2 hour reach of the 3 most important winter tours in Europe, which offer ideal training for young horses, an active marketplace for sales horses, as well as three star level international competition among some of the best riders in the world, right on our doorstep : Sunshine tour, Vilamoura, and Mijas.
Makomay Eq. is the perfect balance between natural horsemanship and performance. We focus on top-level sport whilst insisting our horses are naturally kept.
We believe in the benefits of herd dynamics, barefoot hooves, and communication rather than force, which allows the animals to express themselves, develop a personality and an autonomous mind. “I don’t want to turn them into obedient machines. I keep them turned out in a herd where they can establish a hierarchy and a social order, learn from each other and just be horses. The fear of injury should not prevail on a horse’s mental health. Keeping horses isolated in a stable, which is the standard in our sport, is counter-productive and highly unnatural”, Cassandre says. “Whilst the big sport is my objective, my main goal on the long term is to change the sport itself. I am determined to turn it into a more ethical one, where horse welfare is at the cornerstone of every decision made by the riders, as well as the federations and the organisers.”

Built on over 14 hectares of flat land, the Makomay Eq. facility features countless turnout fields, a walker and lunging pen, Damman arenas, a lorry parking and state of the art stables.
Stables:
-Built on 300m2, with a 6m ceiling height for temperature control, all fittings and lightning by Armani Casa.
-Extra large 3,5 x 4m German quality Röwer & Rüb boxes with 3 litre stainless steel automatic drinkers, lowered floors, rubber matting, drainage system, and convertible fronts. Boxes for stallions and foaling boxes available.
-24/7 video surveillance and alarm system.
-2 indoor marble hot water showers with rubber matting.
-Rider’s bathroom and shower.
-Tack room and laundry room.
-Bose music system throughout the stables.

Jumping arena:

Extra large 19m 8 horse covered walker with rubber matting, set in a beautiful olive grove, providing the horses with additional shade and freshness.
Paddocks:
Endless flat, secure and stoneless fields with shelters, electric fencing, and wooden 3 level fencing and gates by Jacksons.
Automatic irrigation system for all paddocks to provide fresh grass which allows the horses to graze naturally during most of the year.
