Luke Micallef delivered one of Malta’s finest road‑running performances on the international stage, finishing 6th in the Mediterranean Games Half Marathon in Taranto with a superb time of 1:07:16 the best Maltese placing and time ever recorded at the Games.
Competing in intense heat and humidity, Micallef approached the race with strategic discipline. The first half was controlled and measured, allowing him to conserve energy before pushing hard in the second half to gain ground against a strong field featuring seasoned European and World Championship athletes. His performance marks a significant step forward for Maltese distance running.
Micallef also praised teammate Dillon Cassar, who finished an impressive 7th, highlighting the growing strength of Malta’s endurance athletes.
