El Cid up and running again. Club President John Feek thanking everyone involved with the carpet replacement but with special mentions for Trefor Evans our contact at BBC and to Keith Hamilton of JGBC for their help and offers of equipment. Without them El Cids future was looking very uncertain. John then invited Roy Lees , who coordinated the transfer of the carpet to El Cid from BBC, to play the first "official" bowl of the first club session. No pressure Roy but as you can see below he didn't disappoint! A fantastic turnout of 27 bowlers , including 3 from the Amigos enjoying some close games with a few drinks afterwards.

Amazing progress from Steve and Tom of Dales today. Looks like they may finish ahead of schedule. Another good turnout from members this morning. The principle workers being Norma Warrillow and Dave Forret on ditches and already marking the new T's (once the principal whinger on duty Paul Trunchion let them get on with it!!?)were Roy Lees, Chris Salter and Clive Scott. Also helping out were Stewart Beattie, John Feek and Peter Whitbread. Looks like it's mostly washing and placing ditch mats tomorrow morning and a possible return to bowling over the weekend! Watch this space!

Wow! 2.30pm Wednesday and amazing progress already! Big relief in that the replacement carpet will fit!!!

Truly incredible! Never has the saying "many hands make light work" been so true. A fantastic turnout of 14 club members including 3 from the Amigos (many thanks Ron, Steve and Alan) ensured all today's tasks were done by 10.30am! Old carpet unstitched, new carpet rolled into place, old carpet rolled up and underlay hoovering started. So lucky with the weather. High cloud stopping the heat getting through until we had just about finished.
Well done everyone! Only problem was some had to wrestle with the decision whether to drink alcohol before 11am. The Clubs decision to pay for the first round probably helped those in difficulty!

Well that was fun! With BBC currently having their new carpet fitted their members were invited to play a friendly match at El Cid. The result was 16 ends of fun with 42 members of both clubs mixed together!
The Spanish heat has arrived! Just 32c by the end of the match. Everyone staying on for a few drinks afterwards with a few sampling the excellent tapas menu. As for the result - who knows and who cares!!The match enjoyed by all. Big day tomorrow at El Cid with a number of members helping with the removal of our own carpet. Could be hot work though, the forecast high for tomorrow is 36c!!!

A day in the life of a bowls carpet! Just 7 hours ago Benitatchell BC started to say goodbye to their carpet! Now that carpet is in place at El Cid BC ready to be put down soon! Special mention for El Cid Club and Committee members Roy Lees(who is organising the whole event!) and Ian Blight, David Hall and Paul Trunchion summoned from their siestas with just 45 minutes to spare by Club Captain Stewart Beattie! Great job Hermanos Llobell! Without that wonderful crane things could have been tricky and painful!

Bonanza Hong Kong Pairs at Greenlands BC. Well, as expected that was different but great fun! The prospect of scoring or dropping 20 shots in one end sure makes you think! I know there was one score of 19. Congratulations to the winners Dave Morrison with Peta Rhodes! Special mention though for John Archer and Roli Bell, winning a prize for the best win of the group in their first game. An improving day for El Cid's Paul and Alan. Ahead until the 7th end of the first game but lost, winning until the last bowl of the opposition skip in the second game then a 41/15 win in the last!!
Many thanks to Greenlands BC for a fantastic day. An excellent raffle and thanks also to all the staff in the bar for their excellent service. Full results and better photos may follow later!
