France and Canada leading U-18 and U-25 races after Day 1

of Junior Adventure Racing World Championship.

Témiscamingue, July 25, 2026 – Saturday marked the first of two days in the inaugural Junior Adventure Racing World Championship in Témiscamingue, Que. Thirty-eight teams from 10 countries – Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay, and the United States – have travelled to Témiscamingue to compete in pairs across Under-18 and Under-25 categories.

This 60-kilometre day of racing began with a long canoeing section in Lake Kipawa, after which athletes mountain biked, orienteered, ran, slack-lined, swam, and ziplined their way to the finish in Opémican National Park. Athletes will spend the night in the park before getting up to do it all over again (although following an entirely different course) tomorrow, starting where they left off in the Opémican National Park.

As expected, the day featured some close racing. The Under-18 men’s race saw France’s Elie and Zacharie Dhombres reach the finish line ahead of a pair of teams from New Zealand – Luke Jansen and Silas Jones (who finished in second) and Louie Burger and Leo Easton (third on the day).

France’s Adeline Choutkoff and Maiwenn Tate led the way in the Under-18 women’s standings, followed by their compatriots Léna Bourdon and Lauriane Bouchut, with Vivian Alexander and Lillian Chessman of the U.S. taking third. The Under-18 mixed race had yet another two French teams finish atop the standings, with Amandine Govin and Dayan Molus in first while Valentin Bourbon and Ella Gueydan Monjusiau took second. Third belongs to Maya Grogean and Jeremy Bel of the U.S.

The Under-25 men’s race had another French team – Anaël Audouin and Robin Galindo – in first. Second went to New Zealand’s Fletcher Williams and Joseph Mulliss and third was Charles Dunn and Nathan Munson of Australia.

Two teams are competing in the Under-25 women’s race. After Day 1, Canadians Éloïse Poirier and Émilie Lussier are in first, while France’s Melle Chifflet and Laura Berruer sit in second. Finally, in the Under-25 mixed race, Armel Berthaud and Noélie Gauthier of France are in first, followed by Spain’s Daniel Puyuelo-Bretos and Nerea Garcia-Rodriguez and Canada’s Rebecca Man and Logan Roadley.

One more day of competition is all that separates these athletes from reaching the finish line of the first-ever Junior Adventure Racing World Championship.

Junior and U25 athletes from 10 countries team up with local youth athletes to complete Adventure Racing Junior World Championship Prologue race.

Ville-Marie, July 24, 2026 – The Adventure Racing Junior World Championship festivities kicked off in Ville-Marie, Que., on Friday. The new Adventure Racing World Series Championship will see 38 junior teams representing 10 countries—including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay, and the United States—compete in pairs across Under-18 and Under-25 categories.

Day one featured the Prologue–a 21-km adventure race that saw racers orienteering, mountain biking, canoeing, abseiling, and swimming on their way to the finish line.

The Prologue is a unique part of the championship. As has long been a tradition at Raid Témiscamingue, athletes are paired with students from the region. Friday’s racing continued that tradition, with the athletes who are competing in the world championship event joining with youth teams to complete the race.

The day began with local Indigenous musicians speaking to the athletes and then performing a traditional song.

In total, there were 22 youth teams grouped with the Under-18 and Under-25 athletes. In addition to the youth race, there was a senior race for athletes aged 55+ that featured eight teams.

While the Prologue event is not deemed as a competitive race–participation and finishing is the main goal for everyone involved–the first athletes across the line were Julien Keean and Mathéo Rioux, a pair of boys who raced with two teams from the USA–Hunter and Patrea Sykes, racing the Under-25 mixed race, and Samuel and Jackson Yager, who will compete in the Under-25 men’s event.

Second place went to Pier-Luc Bergeron and Pascal Lafrenière, racing with Paul Damein and Prajwal Kumar from India. Gabriel Toupin and Luka Girard took third place alongside Uruguayans Antonella Do Canto, Matias Vasella, Francisco Mendez, and Israel Vargas. Fourth place was Étienne Bourque and Diego Peluso with New Zealand’s Louie Burger, Leo Easton, Luke Jansen, and Silas Jones. Rounding out the top five were Robin Racine and Alycia Déziel, who raced with France’s Armel Berthaud, Noélie Gauthier, Anaël Audouin, and Robin Galindo.

The top three teams across the line in the senior race were Malie Lessard Therrien and Robert Therrien in first, Lise Wambacq in second Danielle Blanjean, and Bianca Sickini-Joly and Yvon Sickini in third.

Much more racing is yet to come, with all 38 teams raring to go on Saturday and Sunday for the inaugural world championship event.
