Hybrid training only works when the week is structured properly.
You cannot just lift heavy, run hard and hope your body keeps up.
The order matters.
The intensity matters.
And recovery matters just as much as the training itself.
This is how I currently structure my week 👇
Monday: Upper body strength
A solid strength session to start the week without adding extra fatigue through the legs before intervals.
This lets me train hard while keeping the lower body fresh for the fastest run of the week.
Tuesday: Interval running
Shorter, faster efforts designed to improve speed, running economy and the ability to hold quicker paces.
Because the session is intense, it needs to be placed where the body is fresh enough to actually perform.
Wednesday: Lower body strength
Focused on building stronger quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves.
This is not just for aesthetics.
Stronger legs can produce more force, tolerate more impact and help your body cope as running volume increases.
Thursday: Easy run or cycle
Low intensity aerobic work to improve fitness and add mileage without creating unnecessary fatigue.
The goal here is not to prove how fit you are.
You should finish feeling better than when you started.
Friday: Full body strength
A final strength stimulus for the week.
Enough work to keep building muscle and strength, but not so much that the legs are destroyed before the long run.
Saturday: Long run
This is where I build the aerobic engine.
More time on feet, better endurance and a greater ability to maintain pace as fatigue starts to build.
Sunday: Recovery
Walking, mobility, good food, sleep and letting the body absorb the week.
Progress does not happen just because you trained hard.
It happens when you recover from it.
But even with the perfect training split, the biggest piece of the puzzle is still nutrition.
You need enough fuel to perform, enough protein to recover and the right overall intake for your goal.
Without that, you are just asking your body to do more while giving it less to work with.
