The Ocean Race

The Ocean Race Since 1973, The Ocean Race has been the ultimate test of a team and a human adventure like no other.

We have a proven commitment to sustainability and with the support of our sailors, teams and stakeholders, we inspire action and create tangible outcomes. The Ocean Race is the world's toughest sailing event, where the elite of the sailing profession battle it out on the most treacherous oceans. It is a nine-month marathon on the seas, passing through four oceans and five continents . The race is

an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavour where the athletes push themselves to the limit of endurance in what is commonly referred to as the ‘Everest of Sailing’. Over the duration of the race, the crews experience life at the extreme: no fresh food is taken on board so they live off freeze-dried food; they experience temperature variations from -15 to +40 degrees Celsius and only take one change of clothes with them on board. They trust their lives to the skipper and each other and experience hunger and severe sleep deprivation.

🏁 Leg 1 starts on 15 January 2023.

In Memory of Charlie Dalin .🕊️

The global offshore community has lost one of its brightest stars, and today, the ocean feels a little emptier.

The Ocean Race family is deeply heartbroken to learn of the passing of Charlie Dalin - a hero and legend of the offshore world, and a cherished friend to so many of us.

From his historic, record-shattering victory in the Vendée Globe to his staggering achievements across the IMOCA class, he redefined what was possible on the open ocean.

We were privileged to have Charlie as a part of our own family during the 2022–23 edition of The Ocean Race. Sailing aboard 11th Hour Racing Team, he helped guide the team to a transatlantic leg victory on their path to winning the race. His humility, quiet strength, and warmth left a permanent mark on everyone on and off the water.

Charlie’s willpower, grace, and determination in facing his illness elevated him from a sporting champion to true inspiration. He fought with the soul of a sailor who feared no storm.

Our hearts, thoughts, and deepest condolences are with his wife Perrine, his family, his close friends and team mates and the entire sailing community who loved him.

Thank you, Charlie, for showing us all what it truly means to be a hero. Fair winds and smooth seas, champion. You will never be forgotten. ⛵️🖤

The Mange Olsson Memorial Foundation Announced the 2026 Scholarship Recipients & Legend Award 🏆

We are thrilled to celebrate the next generation of Swedish sailing excellence alongside one of the sport's greatest icons, Paul Cayard.

At a ceremony held at Djurgården in Stockholm, rising stars Adele Ramm-Ericson (16, KSSS) and Leo Florén (16, GKSS) were officially awarded this year's Mange Olsson scholarships. Both athletes have taken the international ILCA circuit by storm, combining a professional approach to training with the team-spirited attitude that defined the late Mange Olsson.

Alongside the youth scholarships, the legendary Paul Cayard was honoured with the 2026 Mange Olsson Award. Paul's four decades of elite success spans the Olympics and the America's Cup, but he holds a particularly historic place in the offshore community. A veteran of five round-the-world races, he famously became the first American skipper to win (then the Whitbread) in 1997–98 aboard EF Language.

In the true spirit of developing the sport, the scholarship provides a unique leadership pipeline: Adele and Leo will now spend the next year being mentored directly by Paul Cayard.

Congratulations to Adele, Leo, and Paul on this well-deserved recognition, and to the Mange Olsson Memorial Foundation for continuing to foster leadership in global sailing.

This World Environment Day, we’re sharing some preliminary environmental insights from The Ocean Race Europe 2025.

By collecting environmental DNA (eDNA) from seawater samples across 2,000+ nautical miles, Team Paprec Arkéa helped scientists unlock a hidden world. Just 24 offshore samples revealed over 8.5 million DNA sequences, identifying thousands of species - including climate-driven jellyfish swarms, toxic algal indicators, and invasive species moving through Europe’s seas.

Using racing yachts as “vessels of opportunity” allows us to monitor global biodiversity faster and further than ever before. To protect our environment, we first have to understand it. 🌏🩵

For more than 50 years, we’ve connected the world through the ultimate proving ground: the sea and the ocean. 🌊

This Race isn’t for everyone. It demands more than strength, and it takes more than endurance. It forces teams, competitors, and humans to push way beyond the extraordinary. Because for us, this has never been just a trophy to win, but it’s a global movement.

Right now, the energy is building as we prepare to take on two massive, back-to-back chapters:

- 2026: The epic transatlantic race: A high-speed, full-throttle epic transatlantic race from NYC, United States to Lorient, France.
- 2027: The ultimate test of a team, making deep connections around the globe.

The ocean is our race course, our proving ground, and our home. That’s why every single mile we sail is driven by a deeper purpose. We are actively . Together with our racing fleet we are collecting vital scientific data, driving real environmental change, and inspiring the next generation to protect our blue planet.

But a movement doesn’t happen in a silo. It takes all of us - our teams, our host cities, our partners, and our fans - working as one.

We are . All of us. Together. .
