If you're wondering how to build your fitness this winter, here is something that may help. Here are 5 simple tips that will help you do that:
1) Keep Your Training Pace Conversational
Here's a simple way to check if you're training at the right intensity: if you can't hold a conversation during most of your workouts, you're pushing too hard! Keep 80% of your sessions at a pace where you can easily (I mean really easily) talk. This will build your aerobic engine and keep you injury-free.
2) Consistency Beats Intensity
You'll make better progress doing 2-3 easy to moderate sessions per sport each week than crushing yourself with 1-2 intense workouts. You body needs time to adapt, and consistency is your best friend at this stage of the season.
3) Strength Training Is Your Friend
You don't need a fancy gym membership to get stronger. Just 20-30 minutes twice a week of bodyweight exercises at home will make a huge difference. Focus on your core, work on single-leg stability, and you'll be amazed at how much stronger you feel come race season.
4): Form First, Speed Later
Now is your perfect chance to work on technique. Take time to focus on your form in each sport - film yourself if you can. These small improvements you make now will pay off big time when you're ready to add speed later.
5) Pay Attention To Recovery
Remember: you don't get stronger during training - you get stronger when you recover. Make sure you're getting quality sleep, eating well, and taking your rest days. Your body will reward you with better performance when it matters.
