Spring weather seems to be kicking in now. Nice varied long run (28km, 1300m) with Alex. The Morro d'Almallutx (1058m) has great views of the surrounding 1000m peaks and the reservoirs which are nice and full after a pretty rainy winter 😀

Saturday 18 Feb was the 2nd edition of the Mallorca 5000 Skyrunning (not official!) one of the best mountain races in the Balearic calendar. Unfortunately due to ever increasing restrictions from public authorities the organisers weren't able to offer the amazing course that they wanted to, but still it was 68km and 4300m vert over some hardcore mountain terrain! A great turnout, fantastic weather, inspiring course and amazing volunteers. If you want to race in Mallorca and see a lot of the Tramuntana this is one of the best. It's an ultra but you're not spending all night running due to the 6am start! Check out the race pictures on their FB. RunMallorca guide Derek managed 9th place and vets podium again despite faster times and a stronger field 😀💪🏼.

UPDATED This is the 2017 calendar for the Lliga Mallorca (Mallorca League). These races are generally a bit shorter than the Cup races and not so technical (but not always!) They are also open to those who are not part of one of the Spanish regional Mountaineering federations.
