El pez ballesta (Balistes carolinensis) es uno de esos habitantes del fondo canario que no pasa desapercibido. Su nombre viene de un ingenioso mecanismo en su aleta dorsal: una espina que se bloquea como el gatillo de una ballesta y le permite anclarse entre las rocas cuando se siente amenazado. Casi imposible sacarlo de ahí.

💡Pero lo más llamativo es su comportamiento en época de cría. La hembra defiende su nido con una agresividad sorprendente… y su "zona de peligro" se extiende hacia arriba en forma de cono. ¿El truco? Si te cruzas con uno en esa época, aléjate nadando en horizontal, nunca hacia arriba.

The triggerfish (Balistes carolinensis) is one of the most memorable residents of the Canarian seabed. Its name comes from a clever locking mechanism in its dorsal fin — a spine that clicks into place like a crossbow trigger, anchoring it firmly between rocks when it feels threatened.

💡 But what really stands out is its behavior during breeding season. The female guards her nest with surprising aggression, and her "danger zone" extends upward in a cone shape. Pro tip: if you encounter one during nesting season, swim away horizontally — never straight up. 💡

🐡 No nos digáis que esta cara no os hace gracia.

El pez globo espinoso (Diodon hystrix) es uno de los animales más expresivos del mar. Cuando se siente amenazado, traga agua y se infla hasta triplicar su tamaño, erizando sus espinas para disuadir a cualquier depredador.

👉 Además, su piel y órganos contienen tetrodotoxina, una de las sustancias más tóxicas de la naturaleza. Bonito y peligroso: la combinación perfecta.

Por eso en el buceo la regla es siempre la misma: observar sin tocar.🤿

🐡 Tell us that face doesn't make you smile.

The porcupinefish (Diodon hystrix) is one of the most expressive creatures in the sea. When threatened, it gulps water and inflates to nearly three times its size, raising its spines to deter any predator.

👉 On top of that, its skin and organs contain tetrodotoxin — one of the most toxic substances in nature. Beautiful and dangerous: the perfect combination.

Which is why the rule in diving is always the same: look, never touch.🤿

🌍 Hay muchos sitios donde bucear. ¿Por qué Tenerife?

Agua cálida todo el año (entre 20 y 24 °C), fondos volcánicos con cuevas y paredes verticales, fauna endémica que no existe en el Mediterráneo y visibilidades que pueden superar los 20 metros.

Y si a eso le sumas un centro con 25 años de experiencia, grupos pequeños y un equipo que habla tu idioma… la respuesta se vuelve fácil.

🌍 There are plenty of places to dive. So why Tenerife?

Warm water all year round (20-24 °C), volcanic seabeds with caves and vertical walls, endemic marine life you won't find in the Mediterranean, and visibility that can exceed 20 metres.

👀 El pez escorpión (Scorpaena scrofa) es uno de los animales más difíciles de detectar bajo el agua. Su cuerpo imita perfectamente la textura y el color de las rocas volcánicas de Tenerife: puede que lo hayas pasado por alto más de una vez sin saberlo.

Ojo: sus espinas dorsales son venenosas. Nunca toques el fondo, las rocas ni ningún ser vivo. Es la regla de oro del buceo responsable.

👀 The scorpionfish (Scorpaena scrofa) is one of the hardest creatures to detect underwater. Its body perfectly mimics the texture and colour of Tenerife's volcanic rocks — you may have swum right past one without ever knowing.

Watch out: its dorsal spines are venomous. Never touch the bottom, rocks, or any marine life. It's the golden rule of responsible diving.

🐟 Cientos de barracudas moviéndose sincronizadas, a pocos metros de ti. Es uno de esos momentos que no se olvidan.

La barracuda del Atlántico (Sphyraena viridensis) es endémica de Canarias y Madeira. En grupo forman lo que se llama un "tornado" o espiral: una estrategia defensiva que, vista desde dentro, parece sacada de una película.

Miden hasta 1,70 m, tienen dientes afilados y una mirada intimidante… pero no suponen ningún peligro para el buceador.

🐟 Hundreds of barracudas moving in sync, just a few metres away. It's one of those moments you never forget.

The Atlantic barracuda (Sphyraena viridensis) is endemic to the Canary Islands and Madeira. In groups they form what's known as a "tornado" or spiral — a defensive strategy that, when you're inside it, looks like something out of a film.

They grow up to 1.7 m, have sharp teeth and an intimidating stare… but pose no threat to divers.

🌊 La raya látigo es la reina de los fondos arenosos de Tenerife.

Se entierra en la arena dejando solo los ojos a la vista. Si te acercas con calma y buena flotabilidad (sin remover el fondo), puedes observarla durante minutos.

A veces aparecen en grupo. Y cuando eso pasa, es de esas inmersiones que no se olvidan.🫧

🌊 The common stingray is the queen of Tenerife's sandy bottoms.

It buries itself in the sand with only its eyes visible. If you approach calmly — good buoyancy, no stirring up the bottom — you can watch it for minutes.

Sometimes they show up in groups. And when that happens, it's one of those dives you never forget.🫧
