Lost power first thing this morning due to a discharge safety module issue – not the wake-up call we wanted! 🚨

No power means no auto pilot, instruments or starlink. Thankfully, Cole worked her magic to bypass the unit and get us powered back up, but we’re still in need of a permanent fix. In the meantime, I gain a lot of helming practice and kept us moving South ⛵️

Less than a week until we throw off the lines in A Coruña and set sail for Australia on First Light! The excitement is real, the snack stash is growing, and the playlist is nearly perfected. Final prep is all about the details—checking gear, plotting the route, and debating how much chocolate counts as ‘essential supplies.’ Follow along for the adventure—it’s going to be epic!

The search for the perfect boat for the Global Solo Challenge has been an adventure in itself! After digging into my options, I set my heart on a Class 40. These boats are built for solo sailing and the older ‘pointy bow’ designs are ideal for Category Zero races. But honestly, picking the right boat is like finding a new home—you want one that feels right.

In July, while I was in A Coruña for Louis Robein’s finish, I got to meet some of the boats that completed the GSC, and they all had their own unique personalities. David Linger’s Koloa Maoli felt like the rugged adventurer, ready to take on anything the ocean could throw at it. Riccardo Tosetto’s Obportus had this sleek, agile vibe that made me imagine racing through waves. And then there was Cole Brauer’s First Light—she felt like the comforting one, a boat you’d want to be with in the middle of a storm.

I had so much fun imagining myself alone on each of these boats, battling big seas and relying on their personalities to get me through. Some boats seemed to offer more comfort, while others felt like they’d challenge me, but in a good way.

I’m also keeping an eye on other Class 40s in Europe and Australia. It’s all part of the journey to finding the one that I’ll sail around the world with. Can’t wait to see where this search takes me next!
