Mohamed Kamel .skate.og started skating in 1976 in France, his grandmother got him his first board, it was a plastic board from a toy store shop. He asked for a skateboard cause he saw someone skating and he thought its a cool thing, he started then to skate a small downhill next to his grandmother’s house. He used to live in the Emirates back then and was just visiting France.
Skateboards starts to change from plastic to wood. Mo skated through plastic/fiberglass/oak wood all the way to what we know know as the standard maple 7ply boards.

Mo came back to Egypt around 1985. Back then they had to find someone coming from abroad and order a board, they didn’t get to select a brand or a model or a size or anything, just a board. Or send letters with money to companies for boards and they send it to them boards. They had to wait for months to get boards. Whether from ValSurf or other shops.

In beginning of the 90’s there were a big group of skaters skating and according to Mo there were companies like Alamia that used to organized big events for skateboarding.
Mo think opening of a skatepark is a key to keep everyone safe and gives a good environment for the kid to progress, in heart Mo believe that skateboarding is street based but in the conditions of Egypt he believes that there has to be a park. As he also believes that we should try to support the current skateparks and try to improve it. Even DIY few things in some spots or in the park.

Mo thinks the new generation is really good, like , and OG’s . He thinks the sport will pick up more if skaters take the sport more seriously and start to involve in it more.

Yehia Ossama has been skating for 23 years now!

What Yehia likes the most about skateboarding is the room for self expression it has. The redefinition of failure as a natural part of the process instead of being a limiting factor. He believes that the resilience one Develops from trying tricks for a long time before one gets to land it goes a long way, and can seep through other aspect’s of one’s life.

Yehia thinks that skateboarding has drastically changed, at first it was only him and a small number of skaters ( around 2003, 2004), and in the following decade , the numbers have increased 20 folds, if not more, and a scene in other cities other than cairo started to emerge ( mainly Alexandria ). Yehia and other skaters from the older generation and some of the younger ones have been successful in having more events to meet the needs of the skateboarding scene in egypt to cater for the increase in number of skaters.

One of the ways Yehia ( Aboelfotoh ) believes the scene can be improved is by moving in that same direction along with establishing more skateparks, to create safe spaces for skaters to skate without being harassed and kicked out .

Being an athlete for most of his life, skateboarding has been the only sport that had the room for self expression. Skateboarding is however anyone wants to have it, no one tells you what tricks to do or how to do it, and the conscious decisions one takes on how to skate is very synonymous with having a voice or a style in the art world
Everyone wants to skate and look good doing it, and this process is exactly the same with painting. There are really great skaters out there, but few of those who can do really simple tricks and it’s a joy to watch them, Marc Johnson, Austyn Gillette, Donny barley come to mind.

Some of the all time favorites for Yehia are Marc Johnson, Josh Kalis, Dylan Reider, Tom Penny ( always has been a huge influence on me )
Some of the local kids, we have a lot of talent going on today , some of my favorites are , , , and .
