Fun fact: Rather than swimming like most fish, Boxfish use their fins like tiny propellers, allowing them to hover, turn and manoeuvre with incredible precision around the reef.

Nudibranchs: proof that the ocean was having a wild creative phase. 😅🌈

These tiny sea slugs come in colours and patterns so ridiculous they look AI generated… but every single one is real.

Some are fluffy.
Some look toxic.
Some look like tiny underwater Pokémon.

And despite being absolutely tiny, they’re one of the most exciting things divers can spot on a reef dive.

Because it’s not always the big stuff that makes a dive unforgettable. Sometimes the tiny things hidden in the reef end up being the highlight of the entire dive. 👀

Once you start spotting nudibranchs underwater, you become slightly obsessed.

The Red Sea is full of these little hidden gems — you just have to slow down enough to see them.

Meet the Banded Coral Shrimp — the underwater cleaner with the world’s longest eyebrows. 😅🦐

These shy little shrimp spend their time hiding under ledges and inside cracks in the reef, waving those giant white antennae around like they own the place.

They’re actually cleaner shrimp too, meaning fish will visit them for a mini spa treatment while they remove parasites and dead skin. Tiny reef workers keeping the ocean healthy. 💙

Also… if you’ve ever tried photographing one underwater, you’ll know they move at exactly the same speed your GoPro focuses. 😂

Happy Reef Awareness Day from the Red Sea. 💙🐠

If you’ve ever dived in Hurghada, you’ll know the reefs here are something special. From giant coral gardens and swim throughs to clownfish defending their tiny anemone kingdoms like underwater security guards… these reefs are absolutely bursting with life. 🤿

But reefs aren’t just beautiful dive sites.

They protect coastlines, support marine ecosystems, provide homes for thousands of species and help keep our oceans healthy. And despite looking like colourful rocks, coral is actually alive — and far more fragile than many people realise.

One accidental fin kick, standing on coral, touching marine life or poor buoyancy can damage growth that took years to form.

That’s why good diving matters. Slow diving. Calm diving. Respectful diving. 💙

Every diver has the power to protect the reef:

Most people come to the Red Sea expecting coral reefs and colourful fish…

Not military tanks sitting on the seabed. 😅🤿

These tanks were intentionally sunk off Hurghada to create artificial reefs — turning old military vehicles into thriving underwater homes for marine life. Over time, coral starts growing across the metal, glassfish move into every corner, and predators start circling the site looking for snacks. Nature works fast down here. 🐠

It’s one of the coolest dives because you get a mix of history, wreck-style exploration and incredible marine life all in one dive. One minute you’re finning past tank tracks… the next you’re face to face with a giant pufferfish judging your buoyancy choices. 😆

Artificial reefs also help reduce pressure on natural reefs by giving marine life more places to settle and grow — which means more fish, more biodiversity and more incredible dives for us all.

Honestly, only the Red Sea could make a military tank look this beautiful underwater. 💙

50 dives AND a Deep Diver speciality completed… not a bad way to spend a holiday. 😍👏

Huge congratulations to Leanne who smashed her 50th dive this week while also earning her PADI Deep Diver speciality certification! 💙🤿

From nervous moments to deep blue confidence, it’s been amazing watching her grow as a diver. The Deep Diver course takes you beyond the standard recreational limits, teaching proper planning, safety procedures, gas management and how to stay calm and comfortable deeper underwater.

And honestly… she absolutely nailed it. 🙌

50 dives is a massive milestone in itself, but pairing it with a new speciality makes it even more special. More depth, more adventure, more fish, less faff. 🐠

Can’t wait to see where dive number 100 happens. 😏

Fun fact: octopuses can squeeze through any gap bigger than their beak… which explains why they’re absolute escape artists 👀

One minute they’re right in front of you, the next minute… gone 😂
