Halicampus macrorhynchus or Whiskered Pipefish. What a find! 🐠✨ Spotted by Eagle eyed Omar on our house reef and filmed by Roy Grundy.
Meet Halicampus macrorhynchus, commonly known as the whiskered, ornate, or winged pipefish.
A true master of disguise, this delicate Red Sea species blends perfectly among coral rubble, algae-covered rocks, and seagrass. Its slender body, long snout, tiny fins, and unusual skin appendages make it an incredible sight for patient divers.
Grows Up to 18 cm and lives in Shallow reef flats, sandy slopes, and seagrass beds down to approximately 25m
Usually seen alone or in pairs, and, like other pipefish, the male carries the developing eggs in a specialized brood pouch.
Nature’s camouflage at its finest. 💙
