In the middle of the South Atlantic, about 1,200 miles from Africa, sits an island most divers have never heard of.
Welcome to Saint Helena.
Here, dives mean cavern swim-throughs at Long Ledge, orange cup coral glowing inside rocky caves, and reefs filled with species found nowhere else on Earth. Offshore, whale sharks, known locally as “bone sharks”, cruise through cobalt water each summer under some of the world’s most carefully managed encounter rules.
No crowds. No feeding. Just wild ocean on the sharks’ terms.
Add a historic wreck you can reach from shore, playful dolphins along the coastline, and an island where Napoleon once lived out his final days, and you start to understand why this tiny dot in the Atlantic leaves such a big impression.
Remote, rugged, and surprisingly rich underwater.
