This exercise is based on single-leg stability with an additional balance challenge created by standing on an unstable surface while holding a weight plate in front of the body.
Its purpose is to develop dynamic stability and improve the athlete’s ability to control the center of mass during movement, which is a critical skill in combat sports, especially during kicking, movement, and changes of direction.
The exercise forces the muscles of the hip, ankle, and foot to work harder to maintain balance, improving the function of the stabilizing muscles and reducing the risk of injury.
It also develops the core’s ability to resist unwanted rotation and maintain proper body position while producing or absorbing force, which directly enhances the quality of punches and kicks.
In addition, it improves neuromuscular coordination and increases the efficiency of movement control and balance under pressure.
For fighters, this type of training helps maintain stability during striking, improves force transfer from the ground through the body, and reduces balance loss during combat situations.
In this exercise, the quality of control and stability is more important than the amount of weight used because the primary goal is to develop neuromuscular stability and movement control rather than maximal strength.
