In Velodynamics we make a point of involving the cyclist in the process of bike fitting. That is because a fit is not a set of numbers and angles; it is a relationship between YOU AND YOUR BIKE! We want you to understand what is happening with this relationship as you get fitter, slow down, point up a hill or, simply grow older.

We would like to thank for all the great feedback we have received over the course of 5 years! Velodynamics is closing its doors by the end of June (we still have some available slots until then😀). But we will rest assured that our cyclist are well equipped to listen to their bodies and keep comfortable and efficient over the many years to come.

It has been a great honour to be part of Estonian cycling community.

This is your last chance to get an individualized, non-generic bike fit. Velodynamics is closing its doors on June 30th.

Velodynamics follows up on its clients. Your position may need fine-tuning during the cycling season, or minor issues hidden behind the major ones may become visible after some time. This is still included in the fitting. But only until June 30th.

Please also be reminded that you need to allow yourself at least 3 weeks to adapt to any position change. No racing or participating in any significant event before that!

It may still feel like winter, but our season is just around the corner 🙂

Celebrating Velodynamics’ 5th year and announcing our last season!

When we opened our doors in Spring 2019 we were not sure how much interest there would be in bike fitting; but with such a great cycling culture in Estonia, we were optimistic.

In 4 years, we have fitted over 400 individual cyclists. Many have returned with their second and third - or new - bikes making it well over 500 fits. We have been proud to see our clients qualifying for Kona, making it to the national team or simply being able to enjoy cycling for longer distances. The feedbacks have kept us going.

Entering our 5th year we are at a crossroads. Bike fitting is an expensive service. We do not want to raise our prices further. Neither do we want to sell anything other than our service. So, we have concluded, it is time to call it a day while we still enjoy it.

This will be our last season. We will celebrate our 5th birthday and bow out with our final fittings.

Fit for Festive 500!

Waiting for the cycling season to have your bike fitting done? Don’t!

You will be told to take it easy on the three weeks following a bike fitting session. Your body needs time to adapt to any change in position. But come May and you decide to get the fitting done; Will you take it easy? Let’s be realistic!

As soon as you push hard you rely on your muscle memory. Only this time, your range of motion on the bike is not what your muscles remember! You risk injury just as the season gets going.

The best time for bike fitting is just before you do the long and easy rides. That’s now! That’s what the festive period is for!

Do you need a bike fit?

Pain on the bicycle is neither normal nor acceptable! Cycling has to be comfortable whether you are a professional racer or a daily commuter. Comfort is needed to go faster, further, or simply easier.

Signs that you need a bike fit are:
1. Any pain during or after the ride (most often low back, neck, knees).
2. Any tight muscle groups (quads, calves).
3. Numb hands (don’t go searching for thicker padding, it won’t help).
4. Saddle sores (no saddle in the wrong position will fit you! And stop measuring your sit bones, it is of no use!)
5. Numb toes.
6. Hands on the hoods only(!) when braking.

There is, however, one sign that may suggest you do not need a bike fit: After a long/hard ride you are not tight, only tired; all your muscles feel like jellies.!

For the professional cyclist: Ability to generate power with ease; no numb hands, back pain, tight muscles or saddle sores. Good control of the bike.

For the recreational cyclist: Ability to generate power with ease; no numb hands, back pain, tight muscles or saddle sores. Good control of the bike.

For the commuter: Ability to generate power with ease; no numb hands, back pain, tight muscles or saddle sores. Good control of the bike.

To go faster, further, easier we all need the same thing: Comfort!

Most bike fittings are done in late spring. The worst time of year to change your position on the bike!

Bike fitting requires time for your body to adapt. In spring, however, many of us will be training hard and may be riding on the threshold to injury.

Nobody listens to a bike fitter advocating for three weeks of easier riding after the fit. Pushing hard during the period of adapting is a perfect recipe for injury.

It is now, end of autumn, beginning of winter that is the best time for a bike fit!

We, the cyclists, are still in good shape but have also started recovering from the season’s stress. We are a realistic representation of our limit and capabilities on a bike. Improving our position for greater efficiency -power, comfort and aerodynamics, and eliminating any discomfort or pain that is a potential future injury, is best done now, the beginning of the slow season.

Then it is also safer for me to tell you: Remember, you need three easy weeks on the bike!
